Since I'm on spring break and the only destination I have in sight is my couch, I figured it would be a good time to wipe my Macs since I haven't done it in a while. This time around, I decided to learn how to create a clean backup image with Carbon Copy Cloner, but this post isn't about my adventures in getting responsible and efficient with backups. It's more about the fact that I just noticed Saft offers some really handy new tab abilities in Safari that I don't think we've mentioned on TUAW.
I guess since version 8.2.6 (it's up to 8.2.8 now) Saft has offered new options for tab placement that you can see in my screenshot. These can really come in handy, depending on your behavior with surfing/researching on the web and how you manage tabs.

Dudes, I am having serious Saft problems. I love the program, but it prevents me from accessing https:// pages all the time. I don't know what to do. I've searched the web like crazy and found nothing. Is anyone else getting this?

No problems here. Are there any other extras, haxies, add-ons or plugins you're using?

Dude, totally nothing. As soon as I uninstall Saft, it's fixed. Unbelievable. I'm in withdrawal over here.

I'm having no problems with 'https://' either. I was just on PayPal and my bank's site.
Maybe try turning off ad blocking and see if that helps? If so, triple check your list of blocked sites and make sure a generic 'https' didn't slip in accidentally.

Julien, I feel your pain. Well, I used to -- I was experiencing the same agony with a prior version of Saft. But now it's working fine for me -- I can't seem to reproduce the problem with the lastest versions of Safari and Saft.
I'm assuming you have the latest versions, but if ya don't -- get 'em. That might solve your problem right there.
Nonetheless, I'll share what I remember about how I fixed the problem. Like you, I scoured the web looking for a fix. Finally found it somewhere, but now I don't know where. Nor can I find it again. But what I did find definitely worked for me.
It had to do with changing Saft's preferences. As I recall, if I installed Saft and made no changes to its prefs -- happy happy joy joy. If I then changed Saft's prefs regarding (I'm almost certain) saving and restoring tabs -- no joy. I think the issue was not whether the setting was off or on, but just that it had been changed, which created an entry in Safari's prefs file.
So I guess I just left that setting at whatever its default was and enjoyed the rest of Saft's joy til at some point a new version apparently fixed the issue.
Saft stores its prefs in your com.apple.safari.plist file, from which you can delete all of its settings to get back to a default state. Use Property List Editor (it's part of the developer tools which everybody reading this blog should certainly have installed if they have the disk space) to just delete Saft's entries from the file and retain the rest of your carefully crafted Safari (and other enhancement) pref settings.
I hope this helps.
