Apple Store coming to Knoxville?
If the Knoxville News
Sentinel is correct, then the answer will be "yes." As the newspaper notes, the West Town Mall in
Knoxville does indeed show up on Apple's job listing page. This would be the third
Apple Store for Tennessee.ifoAppleStore's prediciton chart lists mid-August as a likely date for this store. If any TUAW operatives in the Knoxville area notice some covert construction within the West Town Mall, please let us know!

Oh come on Apple, three Apple stores for Tennessee?!? Kentucky is still waiting on its first! Why not hook Louisville, KY up with a store before saturating the surrounding states? I love our little Apple retailer "MacTown" but I think its about time Apple took a look at our quaint "little" town.

From the 'grand opening prediction' post that was put up yesterday, and this post it has caused me to be curious and search the Apple jobs site
http://www.apple.com/jobs/index.html
And I have come across some info about the Ridgedale Center store that was predicted to open in July of this year. Minnetonka-MN is listed as a place to search for job postings, although none are listed as of yet. This is an interesting coincidence. Not to spin the rumor mill any further just an observation.

Well, I'll be in my hometown of Knox-vegas this summer for my 10 year High School Reunion, so if I see anything at West Town I'll drop you guys a line.

Amen to that Chris. I've driven to Cinci 4 times in two months just for their Apple store (Though Jungle Jim's market is always a perk of going to Cinci too). Got a nice speeding ticket on one of those. Apple could be saving me on speeding money if we had one here in Louisville!!

I went by the West Town Mall back a few week ago when the Job postings first appeared and I got an email about them from Apple jobs (at which point our local campus computer store nearly panicked). There does appear to be some construction going on about midway down the Mall's main concourse. It's rather wide (can't tell how deep it is really yet) and unlike other construction areas in the mall, there isn't any mention of what "Exciting new fun thing" is coming to the mall. Last time I was out there it was still just standard Simon Malls construction walling, but I would hope that that will soon change into nice black Apple walling. The location is great, and if they really do use the whole width of that slot, this could be a very nice Apple Store.

#6, that sounds like the location for the new Pottery Barn - are you referring to a different spot?

I live in Knoxville and I just came back from West Town Mall. I asked the girl at the help desk in the mall where the new Apple store would be and she pointed right behind me. I turned around and there was a security man standing there. It was just a coincidence though. He was there because the lock broke on the gate of the store. Right now it is still a Back Time store. They still haven't even moved out all their junk yet. I will probably check on it every week until it is open. And then I will probably try to get a job there. Does anyone know the best way to become a Mac Genius?

We really need one in KY. Louisville would be the most likely candidate, but I think Lexington be good too. It is a college town with a gagillion students using iPods (I know, I teach them) and a pretty good awareness of the Apple brand.
Apple store for Kentucky!! Although in all honesty, Louisville does me no better than Cinci. Same distance.

I live in Knoxville, and if you ask me, Apple is making a mistake putting it in West Town Mall, Turkey Creek is a far better location for it to be located at, and is much more visited and accessible.

This will be great for my parents. I have been a mac user forever and I have been trying to get them to switch. Their big problem was there isn't a location that is remotely close to them.
Maybe they will make the switch now?!

Ugggghhhh.... knoxbro's, besides the fact that Turkey Creek is the very definition of New South Sprawl Stain, it's not even central! Even if we could overlook the fact that the entire development was built with complete disregard to the sensitive environmental area that was completely disrupted, it's sooo not Knoxville but Farragut... West Town is central and safe. If Apple wanted to be progressive... they would be downtown where the new action is!

I agree with Knoxsharp, Turkey Creek is the most disgusting place in our city. The upper class from the People's Republic of Farragut would drive inwards to go to an apple store. However, students at UTK are highly unlikely to make the trek out to Turkey Creek.

Please open more stores in Canada Apple! I hate clicking on the retail portion of Apple.ca, because it takes me to the single page of our lone store in Toronto. And Toronto bites. The west is where it's happening.

In response to utprrthd, I think I may have had the Pottery Barn location mixed up in there.
In response to knoxsharp!, I completely agree about turkey creek and I do think that West Town is a far better location, mainly due to it's central location. And while I also do think that it would be far more progressive, and ever more Appleish, to put the store downtown where all the real action is these days, I beleive their logic is that having it there would pull too much away from the already healthy sales from UT's University Center Computer Store who is an Apple Campus Store as well. Which is too bad in a way, would have loved to see them really ignite the action downtown, but still, at least it'll have a movie theater soon :)

I actually live in Knoxville, Around Sequoyah Hillls and I recently went to the mall (saturday, March 9, 2006) and the pottery barn actually has the generic "simon mall, more choices coming soon--pottery barn" but the apple store , where the back in time store used to be, is now a nice black wall, which is fairly large, but again, as of saturday ,march 9, there is no apple logo or other, however the front desk has a brochure of some type reffering to the job possitions of apple.
hope this helped some
-Mac

There is DEFINITELY an Apple Store coming to Knoxville. I just came back from the West Town Mall and saw the same black construction wall as the previous commenter - only now there's a nice, big apple logo and the text www.apple.com.
There are still no details regarding an opening date.
And honestly, Knoxville's not so big that I care where it is, the mall, Turkey Creek or downtown. Any of those location are a lot closer than Nashville or Atlanta.
I'm just amazed Knoxville is lucky enough to get one. What's next? Hazard Kentucky?
