Rig of the Day: Pizza box

Ah, the pizza box Macs: Flat, broad squares of loveliness. I knew someone who had a Centris 660AV just like this one, which she refused to replace up until only two or three years ago (and its replacement was a 350MHz G3 iMac). Sometimes it's hard to let go.

For the month of April, the theme for our Rig of the Day will be "Vintage Macs" in honor of Apple's anniversary. If you'd like to see your own rig featured here, simply upload photos into our group Flickr pool. Let's see your vintage Macs (Apples and Newtons, too)! We'll select an image every day to highlight.

Speaking of flat vintage Macs, does anyone have a nice shot of a TAM out there?

#7 The AV computers (840av & 640av) had video in and out, but did not have TV tuners, by any means... There were other Centris models that included a TV tuner, but the most famous mac with tv tuner was the MacTV.

I think the thing most people are missing here is that all models of the AV had TV tuners BUILT IN! How many times since owning my wonderful 5500 (not the Black, just the plain old Beige) have I wished to be able to simply plug my TV aerial line in into my Mac. Why oh why did Apple 'move away' from this progressive step into tru media hub-ism?

Thats not a Pizza Box! The Pizza box was the original LC's case. LC, LCII, LCIII were all pizza box cases.

I remember these.... I wanted one so bad back then, but they were too expensive for my budget. I thought they were the best looking computers ever. :-)

Crazy to think that my MacBook Pro is much, much less, and much, much better.

Oh yeah! My first college Mac was a Centris 610. We printed a "zine" on it using PageMaker. Boy, that'll show my age... Blogs are the new zine ;)
