Monitor your broadband traffic with SurplusMeter
Let's say
you've got a broadband connection at home, but your provider puts a cap on your monthly download allotment. That's all
well and good until it's the end of the month and you find yourself strapped (you torrent addict, you). Wouldn't it be
nice to get a warning before everything goes kaput?Check out SurplusMeter. It simply monitors all of your traffic (both up and down) and reports on how much you're using. You can view a daily average and more. Note that SurplusMeter only monitors traffic, not content, and doesn't "phone home" in any way.
SurplusMeter is free, and you can get the source code here.

You need a more friendly ISP!! I haven't got close to my download limit yet - but I'll only get charged 2 per month if I need another Gb for some reason.

Ooooh yeah. Never thought of that. I'll just install it on all three machines, and add up the totals. But it's free so I'm not complaining.

Wouldn't even give a rough idea what "too much" is. Sounds like if you're in the top 1% you're in violation. So others need to start downloading more then? really stupid.

April 19 2006 at 3:50 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThat's all well and all.. but as the previous poster said.. I mean really - how many people have just 1 PC at home these days? Especially people that bother to read this website.
My recommendation is for ANTG.. it's great, and can pull information with a little confiruation from any SNMP device. I use it to pull from a Linksys switch and it monitors all input and ouput traffic.
All this does is monitor the traffic for the machine it's installed on. No way this can measure correctly in a multi-machine switched LAN environment.
