Commercial Success and As Heard On added to iTunes
Just in case you haven't heard by now, there are two new sections in the iTunes Music Store, one of which I think is
brilliant and the other which I am sure will be popular (but doesn't float my boat).Commercial Success is the answer to all those situations when you heard a song on some Coke commercial and you just had to have it. At the moment there are only 27 track available, but I am sure there will be more coming.
As Heard On American Idol features songs sung by the hopeful pop stars on American Idol. You can hear the songs as they were meant to be heard, and really isn't that what it is all about?
Thanks to everyone who sent this in.

oh, and also this site:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indie_%28music%29
you may find it informative
but hey, im just an idiot.
Samuel, calm down. Did I really get under your skin that badly? :)
You assume too much about what I'm talking about. You should get with the program -- Indie does not only mean independent artists but it is also a genre. Look at those hipsters with the glasses and the tight jeans and tshirts.
Sure, the meaning behind "Indie" started out as being solely about independent music but now it's grown into its own, much like hip-hop or country. I think you've lost touch.
Check this website out and tell me "indie" isn't a genre: www.pitchforkmedia.com
Please don't hit me, ok?
Damn...I had the idea (and probably a lot of other people too) for a place that lets you find out what song was played in a commercial.
Good to see someone finally put it into effect, at least.
kevin, you're an idiot. Any "indie" band that has been signed to a big label is by definition no longer indie. Indie, if you do not know, is a diminuitive of the word "independent". It is not a genre. So, with that in mind, indie music is only slightly more mainstream now than it ever has been, because once any band gets any kind of attention, they get signed and are no longer independent. Got it memorized?

April 24 2006 at 10:46 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI remember fondly the days when people (like me) thought the internet would enable small publishers, filmmakers, record labels, bands and singer-songwriters to conquer the world. Just put up a page and stick it to the majors! Who needs 'em.
I guess we all were fools, weren't we.
I'm sure these two new items will outsell indie output 100 to 1.
