Duke no longer giving students iPods

You may remember that last year Duke gave every incoming Freshman an iPod on which to listen to course podcasts and the like. Duke soon changed the program to give the iPods only to students who were taking 'iPod approved' classes. This has worked well since the number of 'iPod Approved' classes has gone from 19 to 47 in recent months, and that means Duke needs to give out an increasing number of iPods with the same old budget.

Something had to give, and now the program is no longer giving the iPods away. Instead students have two options: they can borrow the iPod for free for the entire semester, or buy it out right for $99.

Um maybe not every student.
But in a couple of modules this year( im not at duke) the lecturers prepared both accompanying lectures during the term and then revision lectures. I listen to them alot. Kinda like those learn french while you sleep tapes. Stick a topic playlist on loop and listen to it while I sleep. Nerdy yes, helpful lots, and streaming doesnt allow that.
The scheme may be flawed but the idea of podcast lectures isnt never underestimate the laze of students, if we can find a way to do less work with the same results we'll use, even more so if we get a low cost ipod too

this was a dumb idea anyway
like as if any student is really going to listen to podcasts of lectures.
besides, they should just release audio files on a class website and just stream it if its really necessary.

Nice.
Of course given just how they are paying to allow to purchase them at $99 they could just make it a cheaper iPod model, 1gig nano perhaps, they'd still keep witihn their budget.
Just a thought.
