ffmpegX has gone Universal

ffmpegX, my video encoder of choice, has released a new version (0.0.9w) that is a Universal Binary (I bet it encodes like lightening on one of the now Intel Macs). This version only supports OS X 10.3 or higher, so you pre-Panther folks will need to use an older version.

Other than the Universal goodness that this release brings, the other big news is that ffmpegX can now encode Flash video for use on blogs (or anywhere else that supports it).

The price? Free $15 (turns out it is shareware.  Who knew?).

Thanks,
Ultim8Fury.

So much power, so little clarity.

The author of FFmpegX has done a hell of a lot of work on getting the mencoder and mpeg2enc binaries to compile and work on intel macs. I've been following his progress in ( http://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=294844 ) this thread over the last few months. Much credit to the author. This little app is well worth registering.

Actually, it's shareware ( http://ffmpegx.com/register.html ), $15. Though many of the components are free (open source), the author puts together the GUI and is essentially selling that.

This is great news! Thanks for letting us know.

For the un-initiated, ffmpepgx is a GUI that controls two or three command-line utilities (probably ported from the Linux world) that allow you to encode and decode just about any imaginable video format INTO any imaginable format. Installation is a little tricky because you have to install the CL binaries, and the interface is a little thick and complicated, but I've used it as a tool of last resort dozens of times when I get files that just don't open in anything else.

If QT Pro can't do it, reach for this one. You may only use it once a month, but it's a life-saver.

One of the best Mac OS X apps just got better. Great tool, great support, what else can you ask for?

I have been waiting for Intel support in this app for a long time, and today it is here. Thanks!
