Charge your iPod and listen to it at the same time

This might be old news for most of you, but those new to the iPod might benefit from Chris Breen's latest iPod tip. Chris found himself in a hotel that has a TV with the right ports to hook up his iPod with video, however, the iPod was seriously lacking juice. He could just plug it into his laptop, but then it would display that 'Do Not Disconnect' message and not allow him to use it. That is, unless you eject the iPod from the iTunes source list.

Easy, simple, and potentially useful. Just how I like my tips.

The reason that I found this article was because I was looking for this very tip.

I don't own or use an iPod, but a friend of mine does and we didn't know this: it's not obvious from the design.

With most other pieces of equipment that I use I can plug them in to the mains (or to charge) and they still work. So why not the iPod? We couldn't work it out.

There is no stupid question when you don't know the answer. Thanks for your simple but very helpful tip.

For comment #1, THANKS! I tried that, but it didn't work for the Nano for some odd reason.

For comment #9, Thanks again! I'll try that next.

To everyone else, remember some of us ARE NEW and don't know the stuff.
If you already know everything then don't look at the answers for the obvious questions, unless you have something constructive to add :o)

ALSO:
once you have charged your ipod, you can disconnect it from the power source and take it with you so you have music wherever you go. Who would have thought?

Seriously though, whoever authored this post needs to think about who the audience for this blog is, and perhaps consider writing for the New York Post instead.

I think arkowi's tip deserves its own blog post too. You, know for the simpletons who just got an ipod for their birthday and mistakenly think it is an apple paperweight. You know they are out there.

if you are a real road warrior you will most likely travel with an airport express. Plug the iPod in to the USB port on it and it will charge and play without trying to mount to anything.

more interesting than this is that your can charge an iPod with an Airport Express, which means both an instant wireless network, and I can leave the iPod charger at home.

it won't damage your battery to use while charging because the computer is capable of providing the ipod with 10x the juice it takes to charge or run for that matter.

apparently, you can plug headphones into the device and it plays music also.

This is one feature I loved when getting a new iPod. Gen 1&2 didn't allow this.

For most people this is pretty obvious, but for new switchers this can be a really great tip. I know a friend that just purchased a mac mini, and little tips like these can be huge time savers.
