AppleInsider posts MacBook pictures

Those rumormongers over at AppleInsider headed to their local Apple store and snapped a few photos of the new MacBook (in this case they manhandled a black one). The most interesting picture of the bunch, to me, is above. Look at that new keyboard. Swanky.
Head on over and check out the rest of the pictures.

Ditto the comment above on the Black smudgemagnet. It appears to be a matt finish that will look like hell after a weeks worth of grabing in and out of the laptop case. I couldn't tell if the black finish was sprayed or if the plastic itself was black. I can't imagine Apple would be stupid enough to paint a black coating over the standard white case cause scratches would be horrifyingly obvious. But then, given Apple's design philosophy with the iPods, maybe they don't really care. . .
I did like the thinness of it and the extra screen real estate. Not all that impressed with the glossy LCD which seemed no different that the regular ones.
I have a grouse about the keyboard in that the top of the keys are perfectly flat. Without the sculpting the older PBs have it's too easy for your fingers to slide sideways and hit an adjacent key instead.
What did impress me was the speed. Using the nearby 12" Powerbook to open iPhoto from the dock I counted about 8 icon bounces. The MacBook opened iPhoto nearly instantly. . .
OMG, it is a the return of the Chiclet Keyboard.

So now the power bricks for the macbooks are different than the MBP??? This is going to suck when my friend has his Macbook charger and it won't work on my macbook pro which uses a 85W.

Been waiting to get a laptop for 2 years and I rushed out to get one as soon as they were announced. Doesn't feel that different, but I wish the keys were tucked closer together like they were on my mom's old powerbook 12" that I've been using.

As a stockholder I think these machines will fly off the shelves. Look at what you get compared to the iBook for almost the same money: Duo, remote, camera, digital audio, new iLife. It's all good. Lots of value for the cost of admission.
"15. Looks like it doesn't have a "Del" key for windows Ctrl-Alt-Del to logon using bootcamp :)"
sure it does, it's in the upper right, under F12.
Okay, so I tried out the Black and White MacBooks and I have some conclusions:
1. Glossy display is beautiful. The screen is a bit smaller than my 14 inch, but the widescreen ratio makes up for it.
2. The keyboard is just fine. Gets taking used to, but like any laptop, it's just a matter of how you use it.
3. The black casing is a magnet for smudges. Looks slick, but not worth the extra dough.
I must obtain one.
I just got back from the Apple Store where I played around with the MacBook for a good 20 minutes.
- I'm not sure how I feel about the screen. With the lighting in the store, it was distracting seeing my face in the screen. However, it seems like color representation is much better (maybe due to the brightness).
- The keyboard threw me until I stopped looking at it. It feels the same if you're a touch typist. The action isn't quite as snappy as my PB G4, but better than the current iBook for sure. The big thing for me is that it doesn't touch the screen when the lid is closed.
- Sound is definitely improved over the iBook. It was hard to hear it's full volume of course, but sounds much louder.
- Played back the 720p X-Men trailer with no problems at all. Case was warm obviously, but not as hot as I expected.
- The "latch" is very nice. The lid just opens without any latching mechanism. Similar to the old clamshell iBooks.
#12, the font is still the same. Maybe that white-on-black keyboard action mesmerized you!! It got me too. I had to take a second look :p
