Macworld's first look at the MacBook

Jason Snell gets to play with all the cool toys. I suppose it doesn't hurt when you're paid to do it (when is AOL going to get me a MacBook, huh?). Anyway, Jason has put together another one of his patented 'first looks' for the MacBook (he got one of each hue). Jason says there are two things people with either love or hate: the glossy screen and the new keyboard.
Based on the pictures I am digging the new keyboard, but I will reserve judgment until I actually pound a few keys (since when I am on my Mac I tend to be typing something).

I just got my 1gig of ram (2 x 512) from Newegg this morning and popped it into my brand new White Macbook 2.0. Friends, let's just say going to 1 gig is a HUGE difference! I highly, highly reccomend all of you with 512 to uprade. It will help tremendously to get dual channel ( 2 x something) because of the increased bandwidth for the integrated graphics.
A word of caution, you're going to have to push your ram modules in pretty darn hard. I had to try 3 times to get the macbook to boot up. I was afraid I was breaking something but everything is fine.
I love this keyboard by the way. I love the tactile feel of it.
well I just got my 2 GHz white MacBook yesterday, and have already gone the bot camp route. With the 512 megs of ram, I get about 50 FPS in CoD1, which is more than fine for me. One observation: Windows sees 128 megs of ram for the vid chip instead of 64 megs in OSX. The newest games will probably be slow on this machine, but hey, this is a work machine for me. If I wanted to game so bad on the go, I'd have gone the MBP route.
Long story short: the MacBook is a beauty! I got it with the base amount of ram and HD, because now they're so easy to upgrade yourself and cheap as heck if I get the parts at Fry's instead of at the Apple store :P
Having tried the keyboard (and bought the computer!), it seems a bit clicky, but not too bad. I like a slightly softer key, but I'm not that picky. The keys are sort of like a toned-down IBM-style keyboard--they don't click *that* hard (nor make the sound nor tower that high), but they definitely depress with the same click feeling, like the safety-bump on a jar lid after it's been opened. How's that for an Updike-like level of detail? It's a bit jarring on the fingers, but I expect I'll get used to it.

Anyone's input is appreciated...
It's "you're," not "your."
