Rig of the Day: What else?

Picking a rig to highlight this afternoon was pretty easy. Flickr user cdevroe has posted some nice shots of his brand new, not-even-24-hours-old MacBook. In black, no less. We're jealous.

I was a bit surprised to find chiclets making a comeback. Clearly no one remembers the TI-99/4 or original Tandy Color Computer. Touch typing on such devices was always a bit of a challenge; at least when compared to non-chiclet keyboards. BTW... Stacking Fault has an exposé on the history of the chiclet keyboard at http://www.cryptonomicon.net/msh/2006/05/chicklets-are-you-frikkin-kidding-me.html . Fun stuff.

No fingerprints (to those that are just looking at the pictures I ask that they take a look at the notes, description, and comments - before they judge based on the photos alone).
I believe the MacBook will be Apple's number 1 seller, and that it is their best laptop they've ever put together to-date.
I just ordered a new MBP today. I was all set to buy an MB last night, but I sat on it for a day and decided that between the integrated graphics and only glossy screen, that I wanted the MBP (with matte display).
It took me a while to decide whether I wanted to get the glossy screen on the MBP. Having read more negative than positive, and after talking to an apple rep, I decided against it. I guess we'll see when it arrives next week!
Anyone remember IBM's PC Jr? With the infamous chiclet keyboard? I'm sorry but I cant help but think of that with this keyboard design-- I hope it actually feels good.

May 17 2006 at 6:55 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThe glossy reflective screen. Why? Just because SONY's X-Brite has curried favor with the masses. Tis a sad state of affairs. Is there a chance that Apple will source matte screens in the future, or will all of their machines go glossy and the option on the MacBook Pro is due to backlog of the matte screens. Once they're out, that's it.
Once kitted out appropriately with the requisite 2 Gigs of RAM, 120 GB Hard Drive, spare power adapter, dvi video adapter....and what case would you put this all in?
Envious. I'm sure you mean envious. :-)
