Dashcode and the art of icons

I'm a sucker for a good icon story (what can I say, I'm a geek). Here's a little story that uses Apple's icon for DashCode and its similarity to an unreleased widget IDE as a starting point to talk about how one makes a great icon. Fascinating read (and yes, the author's first language isn't English so forgive him, however, feel free to continue mocking my grammar and spelling).

Just started using Dashcode, it's a bit buggy and has no help documentation yet, which is probably why Apple hasn't made any official announcements about it yet. Not ready for prime time.

I personally like the look of the WidgetKit icon better than Apple's Dashcode icon.

It uses subtler blues and looks better without the red. I also think the shape of the plans differentiate it better from the Xcode icon.
