A RainCoat for your notebook-toting backpack
I've been caught in the rain walking home from the bus stop enough times to take a second look at at the STM RainCoat at RadTech. It's literally a raincoat for backpacks to give that 'water-resistant' fabric (what a joke) some much-needed water-proof abilities; great for backpacks, like mine, that are toting all-too-important The RainCoat sells for $19.95 and is available from RadTech.us.

Ever thought of just putting the laptop in a plastic shopping bag?

pack covers aren't exactly new, especially to anyone who's ever been backpacking.
granted, this is one of the only ones I've seen designed for something the size of a daypack... useful even if you're not lugging around a computer, and if it's anything like a normal pack cover, it should compress down to close to nothing.

I'd really like this if it were built into a back pack.
And I've never thought of putting my notebook in a shopping bag.

I'm honestly surprised that most backpacks don't already have this. I purchased an Eddy Bauer (shock) backpack years ago with a built-in rain cover that just flies out. The bag even had a plastic spine, making it a nice little internal frame school bag. There was a support for 'documents', though it held an old laptop of mine nicely.
If I just didn't pickup that Manhattan Portage bag, I'd still be using it. To answer Curtis' question there are bags with the built-in cover, though they have not bothered taking them to the laptop backpack market (like andrew pointed out), which still sucks.
Someone should post a link of a laptop backpack which is not only comfortable, but practical and good looking. Find those all wrapped into one and I think we've got what may be the second laptop backpack worth owning.
Any original Jansport laptop backpack owners out there? You know what I mean.

Or you could just buy a Chrome bag and leave the poncho at home.

Whitlock, if you don't mind spending the premium, http://www.crumplerbags.com are some of the best I've ever encountered.

I just picked up a lowepro backpack for my 17" MBP and camera. Their AW ( all weather) series has a built in cover but does command a hefty price tag. So I bought the compudaypack. Now I also have ordered a cover from radtech to go with it.
lowepro link for those that are interested.
