Airbag posts thoughts on black MacBook
Greg Storey has been using his black MacBook for a few days, and has posted this thoughts about it. He assures us that the screen is bright enough to use outdoors, and that the black coloring isn't easy to scratch off (though it does show off dust). He also points out that the keyboard no longer contacts the screen when the laptop is closed, an improvement that has been a long time coming.
How has your MacBook been treating you?

I've had mine for about a week and I'm loving it so far. The screen is amazingly bright...to the point where I have to lower the brightness because it hurts my eyes. The glare hasn't bothered me a bit, but I haven't used it outdoors either. I've used it in rooms with strong light fixtures thinking I'm going to see their reflections in the screen, but I'm pleasantly surprised.
As for the black, it gets ridiculously oily. Being anal, that kinda bugs.
Two new things that haven't been covered:
1) I've had problems connecting my old Powerbook 12" G4 1 GHz via Firewire. It's intermittent, but many times just in the last hour I've gotten a neverending spinning beachball that is incurable via a forcequit, so i have to disconnect the firewire cable and get the "Device Removed" message. Annoying since I'm trying to move my old stuff over.
2) I've had a major problem using the Apple Mini-DVI to VGA Adapter from my Powerbook 12". It doesn't seem to work on my MacBook. I've connected it to a projector and get no response. I also get an odd metal "click" sound when connecting and disconnecting it.
Tested a client's MacBook today. Ran at the same time:
1. iTunes with large visualizer
2. Firefox with Pandora.com streaming music
3. Norton Antivirus full system scan
4. Watched DVD via Front Row
MacBook never missed a beat!
Just a note, the keyboard on my iBook G4 doesn't touch the screen either.

June 01 2006 at 10:57 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyGuilty as charged, kevin. Sometimes in my haste I make a mistake or two, however, I think people like catching them. :) Imagine if I stopped making these silly mistakes? What would people comment about? ;)

Angel, so I have to shell out a thousand plus dollars to buy a macbook to "understand" the glare? If it's not enough to preview it in the store then Apple is doing something very very wrong in showcasing it.
i've observed that most of the spelling and grammatical errors mainly come from scott mcnulty
June 01 2006 at 10:51 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyInterestingly enough, I found that my typing error rate is significantly lower w/ the MacBook's keyboard than on a MBP.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the keys tops actually in the same place, it's just that the keys themselves don't taper? Has anyone measured this? Just curious.
Cheers,

Techincally it is my first mac and I have never been happier than I have with my Macbook. Of course, I have only had it like 2 weeks. Once I upgraded the ram, all was good in Apple land. As far as the glare problem, I never have a problem with it really. I never think about it, ill put it that way. If I don't think about it, it must not be much of a problem. The screen guys, really is beautiful
