Airbag posts thoughts on black MacBook
Greg Storey has been using his black MacBook for a few days, and has posted this thoughts about it. He assures us that the screen is bright enough to use outdoors, and that the black coloring isn't easy to scratch off (though it does show off dust). He also points out that the keyboard no longer contacts the screen when the laptop is closed, an improvement that has been a long time coming.
How has your MacBook been treating you?

I thought by "Airbag" that you meant Paul Thurrott.

My MacBook is easily the best laptop that I have owned. I haven't had any problems with the screen and I've tried to use it in all situations. It's great for work and I actually can't find anything I don't love about it!!

My only complaint is that it gets hot sitting on my lap. Otherwise best laptop I've ever owned.

I've had a big problem with the screen on the MacBook: it has a terrible pink cast, and really bad colour ghosting. Just scrolling this window in Safari makes all the blue links flicker turquoise. It seems the screen is very cheap indeed.

What're people's thoughts on the keyboard? I tried it for a couple minutes and didn't like it.

"The screen is bright enough to use doors"
They really do keep coming with the innovative ideas, don't they.....

YES! Finally the day has come when I can now open doors just with the out-flux of photons from my laptops screen. Gone are the days of door-caused RSI.

Well, it's bright enough to use doors...but I think everybody's question is: is it bright enough to use Windows?
...sorry.

Does TUAW have a proof reader?
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE this site, but the spelling and grammar errors are kind of irritating. I know that you guys work hard, but you look so much more professional when you don't make the little mistakes.
Please take this in a spirit of constructive criticism.

two things bother me. i have the macbook in black and the oil from my fingers makes the trackpad look like crap. also, the keyboard is a little annoying as i was used to my 12" powerbook where the keys were a little closer together.
other than that its a great addition to my mac lineup.

It's funny how most people who complain about the glare on the screen are people who don't actually own it and have only seen it in the Apple store.

I share pretty much the same sentiments as the author and the folks commenting. The case shows fingerprints and oil, but it's not all that bad. Comes off pretty easily. I didn't think I'd like the screen nor the keyboard, but I've come to enjoy them both. I upgraded from a 1.67 PowerBook and the screen on that seems a little dull. I haven't had a problem with glare at all, but I usually don't have lights directly pointed at the screen. I did have to calibrate the color to my liking.

I got my MacBook the day after they came out and I love it...except for a few things:
1. It's HOT
2. Keys are prone to break (I had to get my first one replaced for this reason, and the next day a key on my replacement broke too)
3. Stuck pixel
4. Noisier optical drive than the PowerBook G4 12" that was replaced for the MacBook. Watching DVDs can be difficult with the built-in speakers for this reason, coupled with the fact that
5. The speakers, while better than the iBook are not as good or as loud as the PowerBook G4 12".
I know this is quite a list, but the MacBook really is my favorite laptop I have ever had or used. I like the keyboard a lot too (other than the fact that the keys break). The feel took a while getting used to, especially after coming from the nice aluminum PowerBook, but now I prefer the MacBook's keyboard over the PowerBook. The trackpad is much better too (tapping with two fingers to right click is so fun!). And the ability to run Windows via BootCamp and Parallels is essential. I never realized how often I would actually use that feature until now (almost daily).

I also have a darthbook. My experience is also pretty much like the authors.
The keyboard takes a bit of getting used to, but it has grown on me. i still prefer the G4 powerbook keyboard - but that is hard to best.

I don't find the optical louder than the G4's at all. In fact, I find it significantly quieter. I used to hate ejecting cd's/dvd's out of the G4 during class because it was so darn loud. This one is much better. As for the pink hue, I don't have that at all. I love the screen, it is better in every single way! One thing I do notice is that I cram my macbook into my book bag and bike to school with it; and although the keys don't leave marks on the screen, the small .5cm wide strip between the keyboard and trackpad DOES leave a mark on the screen. Again, not nearly as bad as the 12" powerbook G4's marks, but still there nonetheless. Yes, the speakers need to have the volume turned up as I can get more volume in windows than in the mac. As for the oil, that's why I got the white one ;-p
