Rogue Amoeba is looking for beta testers for their new application: Fission. What's Fission? According to this post on the Rogue Amoeba blog which describes Fission as an audio editor that cuts and trims audio files without re-encoding.If you are interested in beta testing follow the directions on the blog and perhaps you will be amongst the lucky few.

On the off chance that this tangentially-related post will be read, does anyone know of a video editor for OS X that can do something similar, specifically cut without re-encoding? There are several GOP-level editors that (I believe) do so, but there's only a single program I've found which works on MPEGs (and MPEG-2s) at the frame level and does minimal re-encoding (just around the cut GOPs, I believe). Unfortunately, that program (Womble's MPEG-VCR) is Windows only.
Any hope for a convert?
Annnd.... Beta closed, less than two hours after your post. Damn, I was looking forward to checking that out - 'native' audio edits sure would be nice to play with.
