Flickr Find: Is that a MacBook Pro in the trash?

It seems like today is Apple portable pain day. Nathan Makan sent along this picture of his MacBook Pro that sadly died. I assume that Apple replaced it for him, but still his MacBook Pro was so young.

The fact that the trash bin looks almost exactly like the one in the Dock is a nice touch.

If he doesn't want it, he can give it to me. Dead or not.

Is it a standard feature of these new macbooks to die? Because that's what happened with mine too.
Wasn't there a commercial on mac stability and how XP is a piece of crap? I had more problems with my macbook in two days than I had with my PC for the past year.
I did love it, and I am getting another one, but I think mac stability is a tad overrated.
The fanboys are going to EAT me.

I'm surprised the Genius didn't make it boot in verbose/text mode.
Apparently it would get to the Apple boot screen, but didn't get any further. Text-mode boot would have shown what was actually going on.

I've had 3 out of 5 MacBook Pros show up DOA. They get replaced quickly, but
40% working shipped machines isn't that great of a number.

Silviu, OS X and XP are software: Apple is talking about software stability. A computer dying would be hardware stability.

Is there room for my iPod, iBook and iMac, all which have died and had to be repaired?

I took it into the Apple Store on June 12th, and it was clear that the hard drive died, as satanic clicking sounds were coming from the front left side.
And still, Apple have not sent it back to me, after what should be a simple switch of the hard drive.

Seems like his HD crashed. Mine did a similar thing but instead the B-tree died: So, here's another Intel mac anyonce.
After trying FSCK to fix it I got nothing, and because I sold my old mac thinking I had this great new one I had no pratical way of runing a Mac-native tool, outside of installing OSX on an external drive. Imagine my surprise when OSX seemingly refused to install on a freshly formated firewire drive.
I'll let the article below explain all the details, but the it'd be nice if Apple made their new 'features' a little more apparent.

Oh, I should mention that I had boot camp installed, so Win XP would boot when my Mac install wouldn't boot properly. Fun.

To the average user that the macbook is marketed to, how do you expect them to know? My screen got random black lines and then it refused to start. I'd guess the chipset crapped out (because of the integrated video).
Sorry, but if Apple markets their products as the next best thing to sliced bread, then I get to hold them to it on any issue, be it hardware or software.
I KNEW the fanboys were going to eat me.

Why do we have to discuss posts of a friggin' picture? These just seem like a lot of filler to me just to say that you posted something. Yes, the mac is in the trash. We've discussed the heat/DOA problems until we are blue in the face. Lets move on.

[sarcasm] Wow! I am taken aback that machines, especially electronics, go bad. It's not like Apple notebooks contain complex equipment or a brand new architecture. And come on, no other company ever has any issues.
And what is with these issues of being too hot! Why can't Apple put a 2GHz Core Duo chip into a notebook and keep it from getting hot? Every other manufacture have notebooks with Celeron chips that don't get nearly as hot. What gives? [/sarcasm]
Seriously, it's what one should expect from ANY new hardware that hits the market. I have plans to by a 17" MacBook Pro for myself and 2 MacBooks for family members but I'm going to wait for a later revision. I'm definitely waiting until the WWDC in August which tends to offer upgraded products that very day.

That Nathan jerk needs a life outside Flickr by the looks of things (check the Flickr stream). Definitely a slow news day.

Was this picture really neccessary? It's only a piece of machinery - there are a lot worse things that can happen than a latop breaking down. Read his other Flickr stream to see what I mean. This isn't worth the space it was created or posted on. I don't mind reading some real Mac news but this is just utter waste of time - better moderation is needed

Why does this come as a surprise? Apple hardware seems to have the lifespan of a fruit fly. It's embarrassing.

The picture was posted because of it's coolness and minimilistic-ness.

I agree with the commenters who have pointed out that the picture of the MacBook in the trash is both misleading and childish. The computer will be repaired or replaced, obviously. Sorry, Nathan, we already have Dan Pourhadi at TUAW to play the Spoiled Brat Always Whining About Something role. Two would be too many.

Steve J, how come I have to be "that Nathan jerk". What the hell did I do wrong except take a picture and upload it to Flickr?
