iConquer 2.4
iConquer is one of those applications that I can't have on my Mac. Is it because it is too lame to sully my precious Mac? No, hardly! iConquer has this uncanny ability to steal time. I side down at my Mac with the intent of doing some work and 5 hours later my eyes are blurry and I have lost the Sub-Sahara for the 15th time.
iConquer 2.4 adds some cool graphing abilities, as well as real time scoring. The full version costs $19.99 but there is a free demo available.

uh.... so is this a game, a map, a personal time organizer, or what? Would like to know what the hell it's supposed to do, otherwise I might as well not even read the entry. "Hey everyone, Scott McNulty just wasted 5 pointless hours" is hardly newsworthy. Usually you write to a higher standard and I think you're of the "better" TUAW bloggers... but this?

Noel, even a cursory glance at the map would show it to not conform to any known map of the world. It is obviously the game RISK.

Spectacular game. It looks gorgeous, and I just spent the last hour playing it. You're right though; it's a deadly time waster.

Try Lux Delux, with the online feature it's even more addicting, I play it hours on end

Noel, thanks for the compliment... I think. ;) I figured, as Brash pointed out, that the graphic accompanying the post was enough to convey that this is a Risk type game (pictures worth 1000 words and all that jazz).

Am I the only person who noticed that one of the leaders of the world is Bill Gates????
Mr. McNulty, was this a easter egg when you took that screenshot?

It's a default name for one of the computer opponents.

This game has frustratingly and unrecoverably crashed deep into the game on the few occasions that my buddies and I have played this. Maybe this update fixes this. Maybe you will get to the end-game and never find out who wins.
If it weren't for the crashes we have endured, I would be all about this game. The interface is somewhat less confusing than Lux Delux's. I like the default maps.

Can you change the difficulty? I couldn't find a way, and I just dominate this game on whatever the default is.

after playing this now I can say that this has a better interface, but I think lux is better

Yes. Go to the MacNN page this blog post links to and you'll see that it is indeed a Universal Binary.

i agree with noel, i seriously had no idea what the hell this thing was from reading the post. i assumed it was some kind of mapping application or google maps thing. and the comment about the map having no semblance to any known map.. are you kidding? i see 6 major continents right there of our "known world."

Did anyone else notice that one of the "What's new?" features is "Improved compatibility with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard." WTF!?!?!
