Joy of Tech with marketing advise for Microsoft's 'iPod Killer'
Joy of Tech has put together a rather humorous comic offering some marketing advice to Microsoft to aid their iPod Killer in its quest. Tips include celebrity endorsements, siphoning Gates' fortune and a contest to win a date with *ahem* Miss iPod Killer. My advice? Instead of naming it Argo, why not just keep the name everyone is already calling it: 'iPod Killer'. That way, everyone will know why they released the device, and it'll be clear what its function is when it locks up, crashes and mysteriously deletes all the users' music beginning with the letter 'i'.

Labeling anything an "iPod-killer" is like labeling an NBA player a "Jordan-stopper". The is the kiss of death.

I wanted to post something relevant, but such blatant and improper use of the word "advise" really begs to be pointed out. "Advise" is a verb, I think you're looking to use the noun "advice". Get a dictionary, ya bum ;)

It's spelled "advice" because it's a noun, you're using it wrong.

I don't think this iPod Killer is going to go anywhere. Unless this can offer features that are generations ahead of the latest iPod, then this is pretty much a benign attempt and pseduothreat on microsoft's part.

"Hello, I'm a Mac."
"And I'm a PC."
"I know that 'advice' is a noun and 'advise' is a verb and that makes me smarter and more tasteful than a PC."
"I can spell everything correctly accept 'advice' and 'advise.'"
"Uh......"

I am extremely entertained by anal retenetive people flipping the fuck out over a simple mispelling and then making themself feel intelligent by correcting the author after 6 other people in the course of the last hour have already stated the correction. ... Let me try real quick.
HEY ITS ADVICE NOT ADVISE JESUS H CHRIST!
Still dont get it, but I am still very entertained. You're all pathetic.

History repeats itself:
1912 "Unsinkable Titanic"

It's amusing watching US citizens argue over inappropriate "c" and "s" noun and verb forms.
In countries where English wasn't Webster-ized, there are still separate forms for words like "practice" and "practise".
(And punctuation outside quote marks!)
But that doesn't change the the fact that TUAW is a US-based blog, so should use correct grammar for that location.

People please, it's a blog.
Sure, if the misspellings are so bad that you can't read or understand the article, then maybe a comment by a reader every 2 minutes is warranted.
This situation is far from that. Sheesh.

A Microsoft "iPod killer." Let me guess- it'll be called the ME2, and be about as earth-shattering as a 3-slot toaster.

I'm going to keep my iPod, skip the Killer, and save my money for that toaster. I'm also going to be very careful not to piss off the 'vice squad.
