Should Apple rename the iTunes Music Store?

After I finished my last post I got to thinking (dangerous, I know): the iTunes Music Store name is hopelessly out of date. Let's think for a moment of all the things you can download from the iTMS:
  • Music
  • Music Videos
  • Television Shows
  • Short Films
If you include the podcasting section then the list is even longer:
  • PDF's
  • Video podcasts
  • Audio podcasts
So, while music is still a large part of the iTunes Music Store it is only a part. I think it is about time (Steve, are you listening?) that Apple rebrand the store. I'm thinking 'the iTunes Media Store,' because that why they wouldn't even need to get new monogrammed towels.

Readers, you are all far more clever than I: should Apple change the name of the iTunes Music Store? If so, what should they change it to? Have at it in the comments, I really want to know what folks think.

I don't want music OR store in there. Our university is becoming an iTunes U this fall and the taste of both words is sour on the tongues of academics.

That's about as necessary as renaming "Apple Computer Inc." to "Apple Music Device Inc."

Tune as a word has range. Every skips to their own beat (tune) = iTune into what I like. It's my favourite tune. In addition there is the scope idioms, itune in, call the itune; carry a itune; change one's itune; dance to another itune; in itune; to the itune of.

Apple has achieved iTunes security through diversity.

Hell no. It's still primarily a music store that sells a few other items. I still go to "record stores". There I buy music CDs, movie DVDs, and the occasional T-shirt.

I think this article should be renamed to "I don't like the name of the Apple music store anymore. What do you think they should name it?"

no; no name changing I think - because more or less everything in the store right now revolves around music (except the movie trailers), but once apple starts selling movies... maybe make a new store? - quicktime movie store (?) - just so music and movies dont end up shuffled :)

iTunes is a great name for an online media store.
It's iTunes as in "tunes in" ... so you can tune in music, tv shows, etc.
