Leopard preview versions all but confirmed for WWDC attendees?

Sample code posted at the ADC could prove that preview versions of Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard might be unleashed to WWDC attendees next week. The page has since been taken down, but DuggMirror retained a copy for our speculating eyes.

The piece of sample code is QTNoStepsDemo, a meaningless chunk of code to us non-developers, but one aspect of the page (posted on Apple's site 8/01/2006) is what raised the flag: the code's build requirements specify "Leopard Preview". If this page is legit, it certainly isn't a blatant statement from Apple that Leopard will indeed be unleashed to our developer overlords, but it definitely is suspect. As with all other tidbits we've been uncovering over the past few weeks, we'll just have to stay tuned for Monday's events to see what Apple's engineers have up their sleeves.

Thanks, Jesper.

Also remember that Apple is rather tight lipped ;) , so we know nothing is set in stone until they actually announce it - guessing whether they'll follow previous years' WWDCs is merely as speculative as every other rumour to the contrary

#4: Good Brian. But as far as the rest of the world is concerned, not everyone knows or deduces the same things you know. Maybe we have a lot of new readers since WWDC 2004. Maybe we have readers who don't do their own sleuthing and math to develop their own predictions because they have other priorities. Just like you have priorities that don't always coincide with other people.

There are other human beings with other perspectives in this world than your own. Try to consider them a little more often.

Why is anyone all worked up about this? Everyone knows that Tiger was previewed at WWDC 2004, and that dev's were given preview copies at that time. Apple has also said it's pretty much their plan to release a new OS every couple of years. (I think I also remember Steve saying they'd slow down a bit, continuing this* trend.) In any case, it's been two years, and now Apple is saying they'll preview Leopard at WWDC 2006. Honestly, I'd be surprised if Apple didn't send home dev's with a copy. As far as I'm concerned, it's been 'all but confirmed' for months.

* OS X releases: 3/24/2001, 9/25/2001, 8/24/2002, 10/24/2003, 4/29/2005 - that gives us intervals of 6 months, 11 months, 14 months, and 18 months.

Note that the Xcode project file has references to Xcode 2.4.
