Griffin shipping FireWave

Way back during Macworld SF Griffin announced the FireWave, a $99 Firewire device that brings 5.1 surround sound (with the magic of Dolby Digital™ to your Mac. It looks like, several months later, the FireWave is shipping (and it is still only $99). Your Mac will need to be running OS X 10.3 or 10.4 to take advantage of this, but that is not too much of an imposition for sweet, sweet surround sound.

What speakers should I get for this?

August 24 2006 at 12:06 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyHow esactly does this work? Do I need any speakers to use this or this is just what i need?
August 23 2006 at 10:48 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI got this about 3 months ago...Finally released? It works pretty good. Pretty...pretty...pretty good.
Sure I could have spent $300 on digital speakers but I went with $100 on these instead.
Damn my fingers! I left out a 'not,' but now it is correct.
August 23 2006 at 3:10 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI used to want this so I can use a Mac mini as an digital hub with a HDTV and surround sound speakers... but now with Mac minis (and other Macs) having built in optical audio out, this looks much much less desirable, especially at $99. Too little, too late.
August 23 2006 at 2:27 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWhy is it an imposition? There are lots of things that need at least 10.3 to run.
August 23 2006 at 1:47 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyJon,
No, Scott is saying that it's too much to ask to install 10.3 or 10.4 just to use sweet surround sound, so he recommends that you don't buy it.
It looks pretty good for $99 but it's impossible to tell how big it is from the image.
P.S. Shouldn't it be "not too much of an imposition"?
