Griffin announces iTrip Auto Universal
Those folks at Griffin Technology never sleep. This week, they announced the pending availability of the iTrip Auto Universal. Why "universal?" Because it will work with any portable music player that has a 3.5mm audio out port, and doesn't require a dock connector. Once you've connected the device to your vehicle's 12 volt accessory outlet (remember when we could just say "cigarette lighter?") on one end and your iPod's 3.5mm headphone port on the the other, you're set to select a free FM frequency and enjoy your own music. Sounds good to me. No pricing or pending shipping date information was available as of this post.

Gee, that's high-tech and original...
Isn't that what Belkin's TuneCast has already been doing for over a year?

So, does that one provide power to the iPod as well?

sorry, but there are no unused FM stations. That is an idea whose time has come and gone.

Of course there are.
Works perfectly for me even when driving in the city.

3...
Of course not. It's not iPod specific. What a brilliant and "Why the hell did it take so long" simple idea.

Uh, plenty of companies did think of this. Long ago. I've got at least 3 different brands from 3-4 years ago. I don't use any of them. The thing is, using the iPod connecter gives you better sound quality and charging ability (from some products anyway). Unless you plan on flopping to a MS Zune, I don't see the advantage for us iPod users.
Best FM transmitter I've used is the Monster product. Excellent station clarity, excellent sound, and it charges.
