StyleDash is the newest member of the Weblogs, Inc family
I can only speak for myself when I say that I am not what you would call 'stylish,' or 'fashionable.' You can find me, more often than not, wearing a Hawaiian shirt, cargo pants, and some New Balance sneakers (Steve and I both like the same kind of sneakers), which is why I am hoping that StyleDash can set me straight.StyleDash will be covering all things fashionable with more panache and aplomb than you can shake a stick at. Plus every day this month StyleDash will be giving away a handbag or book tote to a lucky reader.

Weblogs Inc should know better than to put a click-through entitled "10 best bras ever" on a geek site. The poor kids' heads could explode.

Word of warning:
I visited StyleDash...allowed scripts (since half the content wouldn’t appear otherwise using Firefox) and now have an ANNOYING flashing graphic in the top right corner of my homepage—TUAW—splashing promos for their bra segment. Yes....bras are flashing on my screen at work (I own the business so no asking if the boss will be mad).
Have dumped the cashe, deleted their cookies and blocked their script. Still....bras.
Anyone have an idea how to get RID of this???
Thanks in advance.....

(A few minutes later):
Now that I see that the flashing bra ad isn’t the result of a cookie or script (that could be turned off), but is part of the banner at the top of each page, I couldn’t agree with Derek more—this really has no place on a Mac related site.
I’m as big a fan of fabulous lingerie as the next person, but c’mon, guys. A lot of us are viewing TUAW at work. You’re classier than that.

Yes, this is very annoying. I don't wanna look perverted while looking at computers... !!!

Okay, so the bra is gone, but now we have flashing shoes. Is it just me, or do most of us avoid websites with annoying ads that flash at the top of the page....or anywhere on the page for that matter?
Please don’t sink to this kind of low class marketing. The annoyance factor is getting close to removing TUAW from my home page of choice.

Weblogs Inc makes its income from advertising, otherwise we would have to pay to read TUAW. Whenever they launch a new title, it's understandable that they will try to attract readers to that site from their existing readership, hence the click-through in the corner.
If it really bugs you, and you are reading the site with Safari or Firefox, you can get plug-ins/extensions to block it. You'll find the Safari one at Pimp My Safari:
http://www.pimpmysafari.com
and the Firefox one here:

Advertising isn't the problem (alhtough the bra thing really did stretch the limits of appropriate placement, given how many of us view this at work). It's the annoying flash-flash-flash-flash-flash pest that won't leave the corner of my screen that iritates rather than tempts.
Is there a specific Firefox plug in that would swat this thing? Niether the pop-up or script blocker plug-ins installed from the mozilla site get rid of it. I'd love your suggestion and help, if you don't mind. Thanks!

I don't use FF all that much (I prefer Safari), so I'm not as conversant in its plug-ins and extensions as perhaps I should be. I just remember having a conversation with a fellow Mac user regarding browsers, and he told me that he used Firefox instead of Safari simply because it was better at ad-blocking. I have had a dig through the Mozilla site and installed a few bits and pieces, but no luck. Sorry I can't give you any better suggestions.
If another Firefox user reads this, maybe they could suggest a solution. (Tho' this post has probably gone over the waterfall by now.)
With the "Sexy Underwear" ad flashing in the corner this morning, I'm just glad I don't work in your office. :o)
