Hawk Wings updates an already massive Mail plugin list

We mention Hawk Wings from time to time here on TUAW, as it's a great blog for all things Mail.app. One handy resource of Tim Gaden's Mail-obsessed blog that not everyone knows about, however, is its ever-growing directory of plugins, in which Tim relentlessly tracks and categorizes all the 3rd party add-ons, scripts, haxies, tweaks and other Mail goodies. The list was recently updated with 10 new entries, ranging from Note to Self (inspired by Leopard's Mail.app Notes feature) and a Return Receipts AppleScript (you know, that feature where you can bug email recipients with a 'yes I read this' dialog) to a Mail to Yojimbo script for those times when the 'print to Yojimbo' service is less than convenient.

Check out the recent update and the full plugin directory for virtually any and every tool you could need to make Mail.app bend to your every whim.

I've scanned through the entire list, but see no plug-ins that address what I really want Mail to do, as a relatively recent convert from (gasp!) Eudora :-)

In Eudora you can edit both the subject line of an incoming email and the body text - very useful when someone has sent me an email by replying to something else I sent them, but the subject line doesn't match the content, and I need to save the email for future reference, and want to remind myself of actual content. Also, I like to edit emails I get from my boss by adding notes to myself about what I've done to complete tasks she sends me.

I know this raises issues of the possiblity of people editing emails from someone and sending to someone else, representing the edited email as the original, which is probably why Apple doesn't allow for it. But, I find it really annoying not to be able to do these two things.

The other thing Mail doesn't seem to do, and I'm on v2.1, is allow for drag-and-drop editing of an email I'm creating. I'm always wanting to move this word there, or that phrase here, and have to cut and paste, instead of just selecting and dragging. Very annoying as well. And yes, I'm lazy! :-)

Any hope for plugins to address either of these issues?

Thanks! Sorry for such a long ramble.

I'm thinking about switching to Mail but am currently having a problem and maybe you guys can give some insight. I want to use several IMAP accounts. It seems that when I do that Mail makes an "Inbox" and then puts all the various inboxes under that but the other folders go under the IMAP account. Is there a way to change this so that ALL the folders associated with an account, go under the IMAP account name instead? Am I missing something very simple here?

Sorry. I don't have any complaints about Mail. It works just fine for me. I just to spice it up a little. Just was wondering what others used.

#3: That's a really broad question Justin. It would make it a lot easier for us to recommend plugins if you could describe some of your problems or complaints with Mail, or any features you're looking out for. We could recommend spam-blocking plugins, but if you don't have any spam problems, that recommendation would be pretty useless.

Let us know your thoughts, as they'll aid our recommendations.

Just like that Jerry McGuire movie: "help me help you!"

What are some good plug-in's? I looked through them and my eyes got tired. Do you have any to recommend?

Thanks

Please get rid of that annoying mosquito advert.

I've never known a more annoying advert!

Prettty amazing stuff. I'd recently kicked mail to the curb but after installing some of these plugins they've restored my faith back into mail.app :)
