I installed on my MacBook 2.0 and the computer won't boot up at all, not even in safe mode. It gets the "You have to reboot your computer screen" every time. I can't repair permissions, it says the disk is unmounted (?), I can't even reinstall the entire OS because it doesn't recognize the destination volume. Help?

Updated all 3 of my Macs (iMac G3 500Mhz, Mac mini G4 and MacBook Pro) with the 10.4.8 update with no problems. Only the MacBook Pro took the longest when it rebooted, which spooked me on how long it was taking.

No color sync issues or anything else happened.

Word does seem to open faster on the 2nd reopen, so that's nice to see.

Just installed the update on my Intel iMac 2 GHz Intel Core Duo with 1 GB SDRAM. Rosetta applications definitely got a huge boost from this update. The post-install reboot hung at first and did a second quick reboot after 10 seconds. That's probably normal for these types of updates. I logged in as admin and ran Onyx. I ran maintenance scripts, repaired permissions and reset
Launchservices database. Then I rebooted and I think the system is a bit peppier. Microsoft Project Gallery ran in half a bounce. Word popped open. It used to be a beachball for like 15 seconds. It may be just me, but I'm really pleased so far.

Run software update on a broadband machine, what it's really doing is downloading installer packages and then running the usual installer in the background.

Find out which folder it drops them into then
burn the installer packages, then run the installer off the cd manually.

thanks tp but that didn't help.
i didn't have that problem before tha update and i'm certain it's conneted to the update. i don't have a problem of waking up from sleep .
another problem that i have that is probabely connected is that the ventilator makes the "swoosh" noise again (after apple had fixed that !!) all the time. my macbook is now absuloutely unusable unless i kill the airport. is there a way to uninstall the update ?

@yos: I had that problem and fixed it with advice given on macfixit.com. I still have a problem with the Macbook not waking up properly after sleep. I'd be interested to see if you have the same problem.

Delete kernel extension caches, other caches for some issues A number of common issues that crop up after incremental Mac OS X updates can be resolved by deleting specific cache files -- specifically kernel extension caches -- and restarting.

This can most easily be accomplished with a shareware utility like Tiger Cache Cleaner, but also bears a manual process which involves dragging the following files to the trash:

* com.apple.kernelcaches (a folder in /System/Library/Caches)
* Extensions.kextcache (a file in /System/Library)
* Extensions.mkext (a file in /System/Library/)
* com.apple.ATS (a folder in /Library/Caches/)
* Files that start with com.apple.LaunchServices (in /Library/Caches)
