Quickbooks 2007 v9.0, now with native Intel support
Well Adobe may not care enough to release Universal Binary updates, but Intuit seems to care, at least a little. Today they released Quickbook 2007 v9.0. Quickbooks, as you probably already know is a popular accounting app aimed at small businesses. Things of note in this upgrade include: - Track payments, sales tax and inventory IMPROVED
- Create and print deposit slips NEW
- Customize forms using the Layout Designer NEW
- Customize toolbar IMPROVED
- Universal binary version for Intel- and PowerPC-based Macs NEW
- Share data between Mac and Windows IMPROVED
- Comprehensive in-product help IMPROVED
- Interactive Tutorial Center NEW
Despite being a small business owner, I've never had any use for Quickbooks. Always seemed like overkill for my needs. But if it suits you and you've been wondering whether or not to upgrade, you might wait until the dust settles as there are already several nasty bug reports showing up on sites like MacFixit.

I'll be impressed with Intuit when Quicken is Universal; has a cross-platform unified file format; stops double-charging banks for both Mac and PC support, thus ensuring that most banks don't support Mac Quicken; and starts issuing meaningful Mac Quicken yearly updates with actual new features.

I agree with #1. Quicken for the mac is a pile of garbage from a UI perspective and downloading bank statements. They should either a) Build a proper OSX version that is on a par with the windows version or b) just give up on the mac completely.

I support small businesses and I always recommend MYOB over Quickbooks. QB Mac only supports one (1) user to access the data file, while the Windows version supports up to 5.
I called Intuit customer support to ask why and was told that 'Macs don't network'.

Quickbooks is possibly the worst Mac app ever. Lucky for Intuit, they have little competition. But should someone come along and do it halfway decent job (like say, not sunset its products after 3 years and make it actually easy to move between platforms and not require IE 5.2 Mac to do things with the bank 1 year after stops shipping IE with new Macs...), it will be over for Intuit.
Yuck, I cannot say enough about how crappy Intuit products can be.

Why the unnecessary Adobe-bashing? You just put a bad taste into my Friday morning.

I use MYOB and I'm a single user. Due to the fact that MYOB doesn't sync with my bank I'm debating switching. I've been with MYOB far too long and just need some syncing capabilities.
And yeah, I quite like Adobe. Quit busting their chops!

So the lame Mac version of QuickBooks gets UB support, but the more widely used Quicken doesn't get the Univeral Binary treament, even though the newest version 2007, just came out.
I'm still using Quicken 2005 on my MacBook Pro and don't plan to upgrade until Intuit gets their software development head out of their ass and makes it worthwhile to spend the $40 upgrade cost.

QuickBooks has nothing to do with Quicken. This new version is UB ahead of Adobe and MS, and it includes some really nice feature. It isn't a port of the PC version but I wouldn't want it. It does allow data exchange with the PC version. You can run the PC version in Parallels and it has more features (multiuser being the big one) but it is a dog on performance while the Mac version is a race car.

Ya know, I'm a QuickBooks Pro Advisor - have been for the last almost 5 years. While QuickBooks/Intuit has it's problems, doesn't all software packages? I'll be the first to say the QB Mac edition is BAD...
While QB is part of the way I earn a living - I'll always be up front with our clients or would be clients about the shortcomings of the software.
In my opinion - what Intuit has done right is QB for PC - they have a quality product; however, they charge hand over fist for 'extras' within the software such as payroll tax tables.
Their merchant account services through Innovative Merchant Solutions is also a big WIN for QuickBooks as well (although - as you'd have guessed, it doesn't work for the MAC either)...
Anyway, my 2 cents...
