Apple adds 750GB hard drive option to 24-inch iMac, Mac Pro
We aren't sure if this new option appeared today with the newly-updated MacBook Pro, but it's the first time we've heard of it: reader Mark S tipped us off to the availability of a 750GB hard drive option in the iMac 24-inch and the Mac Pro. The massive drive isn't available in any other iMac (they still cap out 500GB), but with 4 available bays in the Mac Pro, they can now be configured with 3 terabytes of storage straight out the gate. That's a lot of iTS movies. These drives don't come cheap, however: typical of Apple, each 750GB drive (across both machines) is a somewhat expensive $399 upgrade, so that's an extra $1596 just for the bragging rights of having the big bertha of Mac Pros on the block.

$399 for a 750GB HDD pre-installed.
Let me think, how much did I pay for that first hard drive which held a mere few MB ? Oh that's right it was more than that! ;)
It's available in the specs for the XServe too.
Now - if only the XServe was available - just a week to go before the "shipping in October" bell dings.
if its internal will the data not be accessed quicker?

Might as well just get the cheapest drive that comes with the system and buy the big drive separately.

October 24 2006 at 5:22 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyYeah... *sigh* that is new. I just ordered my new 24" iMac on friday, it shipped today and I 'would' have gotten the 750gb if they offered it. But I got the 500 instead, with a 2tb lacie fw 800.
I agree with #2. I think this will go hand in hand with the iTV though and it's ability to stream from other mac's in the house... hence the 2tb I bought.
I agree with # 2 that's the first thing that came to my mind.It should prove to be a VERY interesting couple of months!
JkEw
Looks like Apple is ramping up for the HD content that will soon be littering our hard drives.

I used to only use external drives, but I feel so much safer having only internal drives, then backing up everything on external drives.
