Location of first Apple store in Scotland

Survivingcinemas.org.uk has uncovered the future location of Apple's first store in Scotland. 147 Buchanan Street, Glasgow will house Scotland's Apple Store as well as a glass spiral staircase and a Genius/iPod bar. This former theater will have an estimated £1,1,68,000 pumped into it to covert it into an Apple store with stainless steel encased ceilings (signage will be approved separately). Interestingly, it would seem that this store will not have a theater which is becoming a trend in new Apple Stores.

That used to be the Pier (flash homewares), I think. Not sure they'll get planning permission to encase it in glass - & in any case I can't see what's wrong with the outside as is...

The article doesn't say it will be encased in any sort of metal. It only says that the rear wall will be covered in metal panels. I wouldn't expect much modification to the exterior.

What? You actually expected the blogger to read the original report. Or do basic research before hitting the keyboard? You clearly haven't been around this site for any length of time.
The principal entertainment factor here is seeing just how garbled each story can become.

The rear wall and ceiling will be encased in steel, according to the article. Hence my statement. :)

Methinks the confusion relates to the word "encased" in relation to the "store." Perhaps it would have been better to have used the word "lined" as lining typically is done in the inside, while encasing is done on the outside. Or the "rear wall encased in stainless steel..."
However, were Apple to encase this store in a giant glass (mostly-)cube, then I would be impressed and excited.
Regardless, I do not like correcting bloggers, as I was so rudely (and appropriately) shot down when I challenged the use of the word "redacted". The worst part was, not only was "redacted" used properly, but when I posted my comment along with the definition of "redacted," I actually made the case for the original author to shoot me down.

No McNulty, that's not what the article says. You said it would be "encased," which is incorrect--or at least it's not supported by the article you cited. Rudeness doesn't enter the discussion: It's a matter of being correct. Your statement was wrong.

Alrighty, I have updated the post to clarify my point. Good thing my heart is steel encased or the rudness would get to me. ;)

Good news! And it's only 50 yards from my office. :)

About bloody time us Scots get an apple store!
I can't wait to see this store, however I was in Glasgow last weekend and the Pier store was still open to the public and trading......

Looking forward to fighting through the neds for a sniff at this place. Apple had better get themselves some good security. And I hope that's toughened glass.

Damn! I was hoping it would be Edinburgh! This is about 70 miles away which is going to suck when I want to buy new mac merchandise.
I'm still excited about it and will go to the opening. I'm sure this was the best decision for apple as the prices in Glasgow for a high street store are considerably cheaper than to get a store in Edinburgh.
It is good to know that Apple has finally wanted to give us an Apple store. All of the rest of the UK have apple stores and we have been left on the sidelines, which is rather unfair. Since our College and University fees are free for those in the European Union (exculding the other counties such as England , Wales and Northern Ireland) there are a large amount of people who study here - and as I have seen first hand, the majority use Macs! The public schools also use a large amount of macs, and are a popular choice of many of the people I meet.
I am happy that Apple have finally realised that there is a market in Scotland for their merchandise. I only wish that they got here sooner - as it is unlike there is a secret national border they need to cross to sell merchandise in Scotland - it's the same country for gods sake! Thier choice not to have an Apple store here for many years has annoyed and infuriated some people living here in Scotland.

Hmmm... the openings of the Welsh and Northern Ireland stores must have been very low-key...

Sorry Gerry, I thought that there was a store in Northern Ireland. Must have been misinformed.
But it still holds my point in a way, being that there is the rest of the UK - not just England which would like an Apple Store.
Kinda annoying.

Craig
If there was a store in NI, I'd have worn a trail there from Dublin by now :o)
Better still, one here in Dublin...
I'm surprised that the major European cities like Paris, Rome, Berlin, Madrid, etc., have had to wait behind Manchester, Birmingham and Sheffield for their stores.

So I guess the scene in Trainspotting 2 will be:
(the first)
APPLE STORE
(in Scotland)

Perhaps it is easier to do business in the UK (for Apple) than the rest of the European Union "member states", excluding business-friendly (Republic of) Ireland, of course.
