Free Disco for your friends!
But... only if you took advantage of yesterday's macZOT offer! I see as of this morning Disco is still available for $14.95, so maybe the freebie is still valid. Apparently when you register, the surprize (sic) is revealed: another license to give away to a friend. That's a brilliant way to spread the love. If I buy a copy today, I'll update this post if the freebie is still available. Considering Disco's fantastic UI, cool tricks, and excellent implementation, what's going to happen to venerable (and for a while, pretty much standard) Toast? If they don't at least drop the price I'm not sure what advantages it would offer. I'd like to see El Gato build some support for Disco too, boy that'd be cool. Thanks, Timmay.

I need a friend. ;)
October 31 2006 at 7:14 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyHey, guess what? I tried it. I burned a CD. No smoke, kinda slow. Nothing special.
Fifteen dollars for a record of the CDs I burned and the ability to spread out a giant file between CDs? I don't have a 20 gig file to throw in, but once I do, then maybe I'll start caring.
Don't deny the fact that, yes, Virginia, this is eye candy and nothing more. I'll take ugly and free over pretty and paid.
@Sean Hussey: What did you do to get your key(s)? I bought it about 23 hours ago and am still waiting. I also got no response yet after contacting them using the contact form on maczot.
October 31 2006 at 4:59 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI bought Disco yesterday and did not get a second registration code. I only got the code I paid for after emailing Disco asking how long I should wait between payment and receipt of the code. Apparently some registration emails are ending up in spam and junk folders.
October 31 2006 at 4:14 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyOne of the reasons I went ahead and bought Disco was the automatic disc-spanning feature, but that feature doesn't seem to work. There's no Help, so I can't tell if I'm doing something wrong.
October 31 2006 at 3:44 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplymacZOT has taken my money and not bothered to respond to any of my messages. They promised to email a serial number for DISCO by the end of the day. After 48 hours and 3 e-mails I still have not heard from them â Caveat Emptor.
October 31 2006 at 2:59 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyDownloaded the trial, Smoke works for me, if you can see it, try setting it to Fire or Goo, that might make it a little bit more visible, but it definetly looks like a good app. And I'm running this on a 17" MacBook Pro 2.16 Core Duo, 1 GB of RAM.
October 31 2006 at 2:31 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWait...I took part in the special yesterday and I didn't receive a 2nd free license. What gives?
October 31 2006 at 2:04 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyBah. Nevermind. I got it. I'm a MacZot newbie.
October 31 2006 at 1:56 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThese are the two features that Disco has that totally sold me on the product. Well, that plus the slick UI.
* Automatic disk spanning. Trying to burn a backup set that's too big to fit on one piece of media? No problem - it will automatically burn it onto as many disks as is required.
* Discography - an automatic catalog of the files you burned, and when and where you burned it (date/time of burn and disk title where it is on). Helps you answer that age-old question "I need to go grab this file I backed up, but I forgot when I burned it and/or the name of the disk I burned it to..."
