Give VLC a makeover

I love VLC, the open source cross platform media player, but the cone icon isn't all that great. Imagine my surprise as I was clicking around the MacRabbit website (after checking out CSSEdit 2.0) and I came across the VLC Makeover Kit. It replaces all the stock icons with cool silver and black ones. Silly? Perhaps, but it sure looks much nicer in my Dock now.

I prefer the cone icon, thanks. The video window icon might comply more with the Apple icon design guidelines, I remember it saying something about making the icon look like the application itself where possible.

I totally agree. VLC is my player of choice but it just needs polishing up!

Well Perian does not play rips with AC3 / Dolby Digital / DTS Audio. And as pointed out, uses more CPU. But its a grat initiative. Keep on improving.

"You need a special program just to change the icons of a program on the Mac OS?

Wow, I'm glad that I'm not using that piece of crap."

So you're telling me you can replace the icons of .exe files on Windows, i.e. NOT shortcuts, without a special program? Wrong.

You can change icons on Mac program aliases (shortcuts, to you) just as easily, if not more easily, than Windows.

We will have none of that here. I am all about the cone!

There is a nice set of icons to change only the color of the cone at Icon Factory, though.

cool, was tired of that dumb cone
and perian is cool for imovie and idvd and stuff. It will make it easier to play with video files. But VLC uses less cpu cycles than quicktime and has fullscreen support and turns off the screensaver even when it is not full screened.

I like the cone icon too - im sick of everything being silver/blue/or black. The cone makes a nice change in my dock.

The new blue itunes icon annoys the hell out of me - everything seems to be blue already - safari, camino, finder, word, msn.
