Elgato releases new EyeTV Diversity DTT tuner

Looks like Miglia isn't the only kid on the block with a picture-in-picture TV tuner for the Mac anymore, as Elgato has released the EyeTV Diversity, offering powerful DTT reception, picture-in-picture viewing and the ability to record one channel while you watch another. DTT, for those who might be scratching their heads, stands for Digital Terrestrial Television, a new digital broadcasting standard adopted mostly by European and Asian countries, allowing for more better channels and content to be served over traditional broadcasting systems (i.e. - from what little I know about DTT from the Wikipedia entry and Elgato's product page, this product doesn't really have North Americans in its demographic, for now).

Nevertheless, judging from its size and feature list, the EyeTV Diversity is packing quite a punch, and it's available now from Elgato for 149,95 Euros.

Thanks Todd

Got mine today. WIth the pair of supplied aerials I get 100% signal quality and 60% strength. The single DTT stick used to get 25% strength. I get loads and loads of channels but then I live close to a transmitter.

But the remote control is utterly useless, it either doesn't work or works very erratically. It's not the remote itself my keyspan reacts to it everytime a button is pressed but the receiver on the Diversity just doesn't see it.

I have one and would like a refund. It’s a very poor performing unit RF wise I have a 48 element antenna that works fine with a cheap £30 Dtv unit. The Remote is intermittent. And the picture jumps. And it only has a 30% signal compared to the 80% I get on my cheap unit. I have G5 and a I book both perform poorly with this unit.

Stephen,

It may have been announced a month ago, it is only recently available for purchase.

It's used with the EyeTV software, which does integrate (sort of) with Front Row/Apple Remote. I have the predecessor to this model and use it with a Mac Mini as a media centre.

Umm. This was released last month, look here:
http://www.digg.com/apple/Elgato_releases_eyeTV_Diversity_USB_TV_Tuner. My
comments on it are that it is great to have two tuners that work well indoors and with Freeview. Apparently you can use this thing in a car at 160 km/h! I also noticed that this strangely enough doesn't have Front Row/ Apple Remote integration.

DTT is not a standard, its an acronym that is just used to encompass other standards, namely DVB-T in most of Europe at least. DVB-T has been around for years, and has been widely used in the UK since 2002 as 'freeview' and before that on pay TV.

As such you cannot say DTT is a new standard, as it isn't a standard nor is it new. DVB-T is a standard, but it isn't new.

You could have found this out if you'd actually read the Wikipedia article you link to.
