SafariSpeed 2.0
Safari users and web designers who aren't entirely happy with the browser's performance, especially under extended use, have another tool for their belts to optimize and tweak its performance. SafariSpeed 2.0 has been able to turn off favicons and Safari's 1 second page loading delay in the past, but this recent 2.0 upgrade includes new features like:- disable cache (ideal for web designers testing sites)
- enable/disable the debug menu
- toggle PDF support (either downloading the PDF or displaying it in-line)
- swap between the on-its-last-legs brushed metal and Aqua

You could also try OmniWeb if you need a WebKit-based browser, its ad blocking is amazing, and its an absolute steal this month.

Download th CSS stye sheet from Floppy Mouse, Safari Block (http://fsbsoftware.com/) and Safari Speed.
The three take care of about 99% of all ads out there.
This app broke my system. After I installed, neither Firefox nor Safari would load a web page completely. I finally uninstalled the program and the problem dissapeared. This seems like a highschool kids weekend project... I know better than to install shareware, but this taught me a lesson. Stick with Firefox.

It's way faster than using PithHelmet or Saft's blocking. This also works in any gecko-based browser as well (Firefox, Camino, etc).
November 19 2006 at 2:13 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI still cannot bear using Safari. I need a better Adblock system than what's currently out there! Until that happens, I'm sticking with good ol Firefox.
November 19 2006 at 11:34 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWell, Safari Enhancer does all that and much more, is free and localized in many languages...
November 19 2006 at 10:10 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyFinally! I always complain about how Safari has become such a WHALE!!
November 18 2006 at 9:29 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWish I had known about this sooner when I was actually using Safari. That 1 second delay adds up over time.
Once you go BonEcho, you don't go back! :)
I can't believe how many of these "speed up Safari" utilities (and I use that term loosely) there are and that people actually pay money for them. Safari's debug menu can be activated by a simple terminal command. The brushed metal can be removed by clicking two checkboxes in Interface Builder.
This is all very similar to the whole "repairing permissions" phenomenon ( see http://www.friday.com/bbum/2006/04/12/repairing-permissions/ ).
Don't waste your time or money.
