Translation of Japanese 'Get a Mac' ads

Oliver Reichenstein and Moritz Zimmer at Information Architects Japan have posted a translation of the Japanese Get a Mac ads we posted earlier this month, complete with essential cultural contexts. Included is a breakdown of the meanings behind the actors (and their interesting similarity), what they're wearing and what their body language means. IA finishes off the post with some criticism of the ads, complete with suggestions on what could have been done differently. If you're unfamiliar with Japan and its rich culture, this is an interesting analysis from a two-man design firm that lives right in the middle of it.

It doesn't go unmentioned:

"My wife claimed that they used the same actor for both personalities. As I just learned (check comments) that’s not the case, but it doesn’t matter, it’s revealing that she thought so. As it means for Japanese eyes the two are perceived by Japanese as being much more similar than their American counterparts."

Rahmens. Yes. So it seems like big joke.

Ah, yes, for the books. Moritz is not part of the team anymore. Unfortunately. He went back to Uni. And talking about clues: I am actually looking for Japanese staff...

Well, in that case my Japanese wife doesn't have a clue about Japanese culture... I think the problem is more that we're not big fans of TV.

They're a comedy duo known as the Rahmens. Odd that it would go unmentioned in an analysis.

If that guy had any clue about Japanese culture, he'd know that the two guys were famous comedians in Japan.
Some of you have probably seen them already in the "Sushi" clip.
