iTunes U goes International, eh

Queens University of Kingston, Ontario is the first non-United-Statesian university to begin offering downloadable content via the iTunes music store. Yesterday, Queens joined Stanford, Duke, and Berkeley as part of iTunes U, Apple's free hosted service for colleges and universities. The Queens University site offers "public lectures, debates, sports highlights and more"--or at least it plans to. Current highlights include convocation lectures (which I am sure are just as fascinating as the material suggests--isn't it interesting that some of the first content caters to administration vanity?), lectures from EECS assistant professor Tom Dean, and material from CFRC, the student-run radio station.

Thanks, Ben.

Maybe now, in a podcast, I'll finally learn, "What the Fu*k's a GG..."

The University of British Columbia has also been offering podcasts via iTunes for a while, but it is not part of iTunes U. I'm involved in podcasts by students at the UBC School of Journalism: http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=127354274&s=143455
And UBC Public Affairs also offers a range of material via iTunes: http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=95882746&s=143455

Someone should tell Queen's then because it's not TUAW that screwed it up. It's straight from their press release. http://qnc.queensu.ca/story_loader.php?id=456ae84c29792

You should really do some research, this is just poor reporting, Queens was not the first non US university to offer content on the iTS, as Chad mentioned, Dalhousie has been doing this before, as well as my own university, Carleton, has been doing this as well.

I just realized that these contents are finally avaible to non-us (read european) iTunes-Users, too. I tried to access those iTunes U sites in the store before, but never succeeded because I seemingly wasn't from the USA. But now I can download those things, which is great since it offers really good education for free - I'm already downloading some things :)

I wouldn't call Stauffer "glorious" - maybe "dated" when it first was opened. I can't stand the mix of limestone, glass, and metal architecturally; I think they were trying too hard to fuse the old with new. But it's been the model for the other new additions as well (e.g. Biosciences, Chemistry/Physics, and even Douglas Library - yuck). Oh well, my tuition dollars had been spent years ago already...

Yes, I used "eh".

I also used "United Statesian".

Don't the two cancel each other out?

A great quote from KIDS IN THE HALL:

Phillipino Man (Scott): "You are from United States, no?"

Canadian Tourist (Dave): "No, I'm Canadian."

Phillipino Man: "What?"

Canadian Tourist: "Canadian. It's like an American, but without a gun."
