Tables 1.1 - Spreadsheet for Mac

Those of you who are tired of waiting for a Universal Binary of Excel and need a basic spreadsheet should check out Tables. It's a relatively new Universal Binary spreadsheet for OS X which has just been bumped to version 1.1. It's true, this is far from a real Excel replacement, lacking as it does much of Excel's advanced functionality (e.g. graphing and Macros). However, if you're only doing light number crunching then Tables might be just the trick. It is a nice looking program, but IMO entirely too expensive at € 39 (~$52).

Iâve been looking for something to open the occasional Excel files I receive, like an ad contract I just received from a New York magazine. For some reason nothing will open it; when I tried this one, it said the file was password protected and could not open. The publisher told me itâs not password protected. I tried icExcel, Mariner, and this one, and non of them work. Neo Office is the only one that would open it, but the formatting was wacky. I finally had to send it to someone with Excel on a Windows machine to open it for me. Wish this one worked, itâs a nice-looking app Iâd be happy to buy.

Personally though, I find Mesa suits my needs much better. Developed for NeXT first this feel like a great OS X application with a lot of features.

$50 seems reasonable to me for an Excel replacement.
December 17 2006 at 12:19 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyNeoOffice has an excellent spread sheet that will open and save to Excel documents plus there is an Intel version. I don't use spread sheets very often, so I don't know how close NeoOffice is to Excel. However, the price is right and it works great!
