QuickerTek releases MacBook Handle

QuickerTek, purveyor of cool wireless accessories for the Mac, has released a handle for the MacBook (they also have models for other Mac portables past and present). I had one of these years ago on my G4 Titanium PowerBook and I really enjoyed it. It adds a carry handle to your notebook which swivels down to lift the back of the computer off your desk when you set it down. This supposedly improves the typing angle and also improves heat dissipation (thus saving you from scalded thighs and, if one of those ubiquitous "studies" is to be believed, maybe even sterility!)

In any case, it looks like it could be a handy product for MacBookers on the go, but I wonder how it might interfere with your sleeve or case.

I originally ordered this when it was first announced a couple of years ago. It was originally supposed to be made out of carbon fiber. I pre-odered at a discount, and waited MONTHS while they sorted production out. Finally, after a couple phone calls, they told me it was ready to ship, but was now made of aluminum instead, and cost more money!

The real bummer was that it was painted aluminum, the same color as the plastic trim on the powerbook. So it didn't even look as cool as it could have.

All in all, it seems to work well, but be careful as my screws tend to come loose and make the handle wobble, and it feels like it could drop out of my hand at any moment.

I have one for my macbook pro and love it. I honestly can't see myself using my laptop the way I do(24/7) without it. The number one reason is the elevated keyboard that makes typing a thousand times better when being used for an extended period of time. Also the lap factor of having it elevated off the lap is quite nice. As portable as I am with my laptop, to and from work everyday, I never really have to worry about dropping it. I also have zero damage the laptop sleeve that I use. Two thumbs up here...my two cents.

I had one of these on my MacBook Pro, mainly to keep the heat down. Worked well, but when I switched to the MBP Core 2 Duo, I no longer needed it to keep the laptop cool.

One design issue: the handle has fairly 'sharp' edges. If these were rounded off or blunted a bit it would save the interior of many a laptop bag. The handle did some major damage to the lining of the Acme Made bag I use.
