Beta Beat: TwitterPost

Maury McCown over at RAILhead design, one of my favorite sources for custom icons, has just released a piece of companion software to my very internet addiction du jour, Twitter. If you haven't heard of Twitter, it's a real-time presence sharing site that allows users to quickly and easily tell their friends what they're up to.

TwitterPost allows you to update your Twitter status and view the status of your friends without having to keep Twitter open in your browser. While, ideally, I'm looking for a Dashboard solution for my Twitter needs, TwitterPost will certainly be enough to hold me over until a stable Widget is released. TwitterPost is available as a free download.

Doesn't Twitter's IM capabilities pretty much take care of this? I get an IM whenever someone updates their status and I can update my status by simply sending an IM back...
