Flickr Find: Inside an Apple manufacturing plant

It looks like Flickr user dinsdale79 was lucky enough to get an inside tour of Apple's manufacturing plant in Ireland. He took a bunch of pictures, though nothing of a sensitive nature (so I am pretty sure no one will be fired over these pictures, so no need to comment about that).

This is a chance that few Mac users get, a chance to see how Macs are made, and tested. Sadly, the factory doesn't look like Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory, but those parts might be top secret.

Update: It was fun while it lasted. The set is down, there is nothing to see here. Move along.

Update II: I removed the pic that was on this post at the request of the original poster. It would seem he uploaded the pictures to Flickr but forgot to mark them private. Live and learn, I suppose.

I always thought Apple just took advantage of a tax-free zone around Cork airport, which no longer exists thanks to to EU single-market reforms

I can't believe how many people are surprised to see old macs!?! First of all Macs keep their value pretty darn well over a few years, especially if you don't need to run the latest and greatest everything. The older macs they have probably work perfect for the somewhat minimal software (compared to say an iMovie) that they run. Not to mention, the old if it ain't broke don't fix it saying.

The posters however I can't defend, I say put them on eBay.

I was looking through the pictures and was quite surprised to see some old iMac G3's and what I assume are old Power Macintosh 5200's. What would be the significance of keeping those (well the 5200s). I know people who are running 10.4 on some iMac G3s but wow!

As for the pink and green. Maybe it's like a protective covering of the shell, so the grubby factory workers don't tarnish the nice white plastic and aliminum base? Kind of like the stickers on new cars over the handles, doorframes, mirrors, etc.

Then again, I haven't the foggiest why they come in different colors. At first I thought it was primer, but primer for what? It's all PC on the outside.
