iTunes: Free Sunday

I don't watch Lost. It's one of those shows that I've caught bits of here or there but whose story was so big and so involved that I never took the time to catch up. Now iTunes brings a free catchup episode, the Lost Survival Guide, meant to hook potential viewers like myself. Except, I'm not sure I really want to get hooked. My Lost-loving friends are kind of fed up with the series at this point, worried that the story is going nowhere fast. So if you're willing to catch up with a bit over two seasons of backstory, a lot of freaky numbers, "The Others", several islands, and Matt Parkman dying in the pilot, this is probably your best free download for getting started.
US: Lost Survival Guide
The addictive drama returns with the compelling third season. Pick up where the action left off with Jack, Kate and Sawyer held captive by the mysterious Others. Discover the consequences of the explosive Season 2 finale. Get caught up in the intense adventure as secrets unfold and romance blossoms on the mysterious island. Don't miss a minute with a season pass to the most talked about show on television. Hosted by executive producers Damon Lindelof (also a co-creator of the show) and Carlton Cuse, the special focuses on the flashbacks of a core of characters -- illustrating who they were and what they were doing before the crash, and how the island has changed their lives, for better or worse. In addition, the island itself will be explored - culled from events that have taken place - which may reveal some of its secrets that might have been missed upon first viewing.

In some ways Lost is frustrating at this point. But in most ways it's just as exciting as it's always been. The creators have made it clear they have a plan for the storyline and have an ending in sight (they seem to think somewhere around 5 seasons). It's good to know that it won't become another X-Files. People love shows that make them think and keep them in suspense, but then they get fed up quickly when those questions aren't answered. Anyway, the show's great. Have some patience. I have a feeling the rest of this season will be worth it.

Hell, you don't need a goddamn teevee show. Just give up your job, your home, your friends, and move to northern New Mexico. There's nothing like an 80 percent income cut and real wilderness to cut your gizzard out.
