AirPort Base Station Update 2007-001 for Mac
Apple has released a 2007-001 update for the AirPort Base Station for Mac which "includes general fixes and compatibility updates for the following applications":- AirPort Utility
- AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow Base Stations
- AirPort Disk Utility
- AirPort Disk Agent
[Update: Apple's support doc is titled "AirPort Base Station Update 2007-001 for Mac" (hence my own post's clever title), and I tried specifying that this only updates software in the post, what with the bulleted list that contains nothing but software and the lack of the term 'firmware' anywhere, but to clarify: despite the mention of "AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow Base Stations" in Apple's announcement, this update allegedly only affects current software/utilities (the stuff that gets installed on your Mac) for the latest 802.11n Base Station.]

This doesn't update the 802.11n base station.

This update applies to the software application for the 802.11n Airport Extreme. The firmware on the Airport Extreme remains unchanged.

You guys are slow. Go back to school and take a journalism class or something. This update came out on Wed night, stop reporting old news and pull your head out of your apple debt. Learn AP style and stop the blogging fad from become known as uncrediable opinion.

@4: So AP style includes abbreviating days of the week, and making up words like "uncrediable?" I'm sure AP style also includes specific instructions as to how to seriously screw up grammar in your posts, as well.
Its news to people who only read TUAW, so leave them alone.

If you want the new Airport Utility but don't meet the requirements you can thank TOMIS over at MacUpdate for explaining how you can get it.
"You can easily get around this limitation by digging into the installer package (right-click > "Show Package Contents") and copying out the following file:
/Volumes/AirPortUtilityUpdate/AirPortBaseStationUp date2007001.mpkg/Contents/Packages/AirPortUtility. pkg/Contents/Archive.pax.gz
Just double-click the file and a new folder "Applications" will be created with "Airport Utility.app" inside."

I can confirm that the new Airport Utility 5.1 works with an Airport Express (running the latest firmware for it, which is version 6.3).
The new software has some nice new features, such as telling the Express to flash its light amber and green, apparently to help identify which base station you are configuring; and features to show you the status of connected wireless and DHCP clients.
Just to re-emphasise, these new features worked *without* updating the Express's firmware. I extracted the new Utility using the method posted above (currently comment #8), and it works without having to copy it into your Utilities folder.
Thanks,
Sam

Michael Godfrey - if you don't like it, don't read it. No one is forcing you to type "tuaw.com" on your keyboard.
Anyways...
It's disappointing the update doesn't apply to older Extreme stations. I haven't updated mine in a long time. The last time I tried it turned out to be the firmware from hell.
