Apple TV at Costco
Ars Technica reports that Apple TV has begun to show up at Target and Costco stores. Apple TVs have been sighted at the Lincoln Park, Chicago Costco retailing for $289.99, saving you a cool ten bucks off the normal price. Jacqui Cheng writes that the normal Costco return policies seem to apply to Apple TV.
Speaking of Costco, we last covered discounted iTunes gift cards during the Christmas season. Now that Mother's Day is nearly here, don't forget about this great Costco iTunes gift card deal. Pick up a $50 gift card for just $44.99 plust $0.50 shipipng and handling. That's a nice 10% savings. You can use the savings to pick up a rose or a chocolate or two. Mom will thank you as she rocks down to Nirvana or Barry Manilow or whatever.

Anyone else think this might be bad for Apple? I mean I am a MacHead just as much as the best of them, but Target and Costco? I guess Apple TV is more in the iPod category then the computer category but my concerns have been voiced.

No, your concerns haven't. Why not sell them at Target or Costco? If you are the "machead" you say you are, you will see that this gives Apple greater visibility and more sales. My nearest Apple store is over an hour away, but the Target is just 10 minutes.
This is a good thing. Think about it.

No way this is bad. The more people that have one of these the better!
Keep in mind that Costco return policies have changed. It's no longer jsut go & return anythign if you want... there are restrictions now.

Antonio - A good 7.6% of the reason I love Apple is the buying experience. All of these new oulets for Apple proudcts do help spread the word for which I am happy, but the buyers also aren't getting the full pictures. Apple is a lifestyle not something I should go buy at Costco in gym shorts and a sleevless shirt. Hopefully these out-of-apple-store purchase attract people to the Apple mothership. All I'm saying is I hope they keep ramping up the number of Apple stores so they don't need to sell at Target, Best Buy and Costco.
(And yes I feel the need to dress nicer to go to an Apple Store then to Target or Costco)

Gracious. Greenline, you are one of the people who give us a bad name. Stop it. Please. There wasn't kool-aid passed around for us to drink.

Sauce - I don't give us a bad name, I mean what I say (the out of control fanboys do, ok ok the clothing stuff might have been over the line, I apologize) but you have to admit there is something not right about imagining Apple Products being available in every big box retailer in America. That is all I am saying.

I totally agree with greenline. I mean being a mac owner is not about the product, it's about being better than everybody else. If I have to by a mac product in a normal store like all of the other plebes, then why bother? Personally, I think Apple should raise prices even higher and sell at fewer locations so I can be even more of an elitist.

Either you're a PC user clinging to 1994 stereotypes or a Mac user I'd love to punch out. Or you're trying to be satirical, but, this being TUAW, I'm not giving the benefit of the doubt.

I need do no such thing. Perhaps you're a recent convert to the Apple Way, but I've been using Apples and Macs since the early 80s, and let me tell you something: the more Apple and Mac kit in places like Best Buy and Costco and Target, the BETTER. Greater product availability = more sales and more sales = just that much less Windows crap in peoples' homes.

A note that the iTunes cards are also available at some warehouses too. I know at least two that are near where I live and work that have the cards in the store as well...

Everyone one of you is missing my point, (even the sarcastic ones)I am not a recent convert, but part of the problem with PC crap is that there is 100 different products out there sold at 100 different locations which things out the quality. I am glad to see Apple get their name out, hell I wish everyone had an Apple so I would have to be writing this on my PCrap at work, but as long as they stick to mass production of their music/media devices, but the day I see mac book pros in Costco I will be nervous of a sell out. Build more Apple Stores!!!!!
