Apple grabs a quarter of the world's flash memory
This is kind of amazing when you think about it. According to Macworld UK - reporting on information from DRAMeXchange - Apple has secured about 25% of the entire world's supply of flash memory. That's a lot of iPod nanos and iPhones! Apparently, production problems have reduced yields, leading to increased flash prices and even shortages for other vendors. When you consider all the memory cards for cameras, etc. out there, that Apple is using that much of the global supply is quite remarkable.

Oh, I can't wait for the new MacBooks with no hard drive, no optical drive, and only flash used for the file system. The OS X install DVDs will be replaced with a bootable thumb drive, specially designed by Ive, aluminum with an etched "X" in it. Oh, it'll be good, and it'll be light. Can't wait!

I like the no hard drive idea, but no optical drive is a little worrying. How will I rip all my awesome CDs?

Bad news for people buying new gadgets. Prices are going to be inflated. But Apple will make a killing. :)
I heard Jonny Ives was working on the iThink. It uses your brain waves to control it. It's thinner than paper and formed from an ultra strong carbon-spider-web casing. Very un-shabby. Very hush hush. Don't tell anyone I told you.

Rip your cds? Heathen! If it's not iTunes, it's not allowed.
And back to the subject matter... that's a scary percentage. On the other hand, how big would the market be without Apple pushing demand up when it designs products? It'd be less than 75% the size, because others are following their design lead.
