While iPhone hacking remains a sport for the brave, the utility infrastructure to give Grandma iPhone User the same tweaking power as the most l33t denizen of #iphone is coming along nicely, thanks. Now at version 3, iFuntastic provides a GUI for almost any iPhone modification task you might reasonably want to do to your ($500, possibly instantly out-of-warranty) iPhone.
New features in this version include: PowerPC support, so G4 and G5 users may join in the fun; a 'permanent jailbreak' tool called Unshackling; multiple, editable home screen layouts with custom wallpaper; and simplified/improved ringtone installation. You can download iFuntastic (needless to say, use at your own risk) from iPhoneAlley or Macenstein and go to town.

While I fully understand the desire to add/subtract/customize functionality...
Take a look at the phone in that preview screen. Looks about as ugly, busy and unusable as a tweaked-out myspace page. I mean, more power to ya, but that's kinda like modifying Helvetica to suit your layout. You just don't, cause anything you do will ruin it.

I agree with post #1
I played around with the "custom homescreen" feature and i couldnt figure out how to edit the appnames, or figure out why empty spaces would register finger clicks and load "phantom apps" could be an inherit flaw of customizing springboard. I was not able to find any discussions regarding appname changes but i'm sure there is a way. Also it would've been nice if there was a way to restore the default homescreen without having to do a restore...which is what i did....several times....=(
great app for everything else like ringtones and app installations.
I do, however, fear and loathe all the hideous "graffiti themes and icons" that will inevitably result of it's ease of use =(

You're welcome.
Also, @punkassjim - Honestly, there isn't a teenager in the world that cares what you think of their MySpace page. The power of iFuntastic is the power of choice, and isn't that what Ben Franklin (et al) really fought for anyways?

Honestly, I don't see why anyone would have a "problem" with this. iFuntastic is awesome, and is exactly what it should be. I don't want to have to learn how to "hack" my phone just to have the Super Mario Bros. as my ringtone, and since Apple won't step up to the plate (or hasn't yet) then there you go!
As far as the comment about the voiding of you iPhone warranty, how would this accomplish that? You're not actually doing anything that can't simply be undone with a restore of the phone. Nevermind the fact that nobody is going to be looking in your phone to make sure you didn't run iFuntastic on it (or what have you). Don't worry about it.

I hadn't updated to 1.0.2 (was fully hacked before) so I did that then unshackled and everything (Installer.app, OpenSSH, etc.) plays together "fine".
I also don't like the "phantom" empty spaces as applications (Launcher.app sees them all) and while is GREAT to have multiple "panels" for the SpringBoard, it resets each time you switch, so you have to enter your password. Hopefully there will be a better way to expand SpringBoard more fluidly.
Also, you can't edit the text labels, so you're stuck with "MobileSMS" and such instead of the much friendlier labels. Hopefully these little things will get updated. :)

To change the lame iFuntastic appnames, go to Applications>iFuntastic Support and open a doc called HomeScreenArrangement.txt.
For each app on your phone, you will see a field called "newName" that is blank. Type whatever new name you want for your apps, open iFuntastic (you will see the updated appnames) and Update your iPhone's home screen.

Michael, we all know he fought for the freedom to choose to incinerate kites! Well... he at least fought to be able to do it without having to pay taxes on string!

If you can't figure out how to use this app then you definitely should not be moding your iPhone. I find this to be such a great way to do things that Apple should have allowed us to do from day one. Sure there are some quirks, but I am so thankful that people have taken the time to create such a great application. It will only get better.

Come on,
This really is a turn for the worse. I mean... i was excited for a few of the features, but it destroys your springboard!!!! No more little perfect Helvectica, everything is replaced with a pixelated font that you could tell apple would never use. All your app icons are destroyed because their names are replaced with Mobile*AppName*. It is genuinely terrible... Sorry, but I'm going to stay with an older version until this is fixed.
IMHO, This seems like it should be more like a crummy and barely working Vista app instead of one for OS X.

@5, Aron:
I know myspace kids don't care what I think of their pages. That wasn't my point. The point is, this is an awesome piece of software that puts the power in the hands of the people, and what do people do with that power? They take ten f***ing steps backward, and make their device (web page, computer, life) far less usable/attractive/functional. I can bring a 2.4ghz MBP with 3gb of ram down to its knees simply by visiting a few friends' myspace pages...how's that ARM processor gonna fare when iFuntastic starts allowing animated gifs as wallpapers? To each their own, I firmly believe in the concept...I just wish the world still held artistry and taste.
The iPhone in the screen shot above is brought to you by the letters ADHD.

Yup.. power of choice. I actually have a much cleaner interface now because of this program. I don't care about stocks and my less used applications are on a page 2. Brillant. And for all you haters, wait till there is an app you want, then you'll be scrambling to find this. This app just unlocks the phone so the open source community can play. Rock on.

This app is still buggy but well on it's way to being a great interface... For now, "No more iPHUCing around." for me and I'll stick with AppTapp from Nullriver.
