Apple and VW in talks over "iCar"?
You've got to love a story that starts: "It has been reported..." Nonetheless, leftlanenews has a report that Uncle Steve and Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn "met earlier this month in California to discuss the possible joint-venture." Apparently there's been some market research that shows a market for an Apple upgraded automobile (no, really, people like Apple's electronic gadgets?). Nonetheless, I think this one is still in la-la rumor land, though maybe this lends some credence to that Apple GPS rumor we posted about in June. In any case this makes me feel even better about a white Apple sticker on my Jetta! So what do you think, are you ready to run out and buy a VW/Apple iCar?Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

I'm waiting for the ZuneKar. Brown on Brown. Drives only on Mircosoft toll roads. You can squirt gas to other ZuneKars but it evaporates after 3 minutes.
What a fine automobile.

Err, you'll definitely want to wait for the 'unlocked' version...

I don't know about anybody else, but I'm still trying to scrounge up the money to buy aCar, not an iCar.

I wonder if Apple will do a deal where you can only get gas from Exxon and Apple gets a cut of the profit from that gas. ;)

I wonder if Apple will fix VW's quality control problems, first.

As a recent VW buyer, long-time MacHead, I would take out a fourth sub-prime mortgage on this shack I live in, drop my Directv, my land line, sell my hair or at least my children's hair and give up bingo to finance an iCar.

It would make a lot of sense for Apple to open a UI design studio and offer services to car companies, consumer-electronics companies, etc. If they could do it without compromising their own development, that is.

With cars becoming more and more dependent on their internal computer system, it would seem only logical computer companies become involved in the process. There is also a growing interest in cars like the smart, mini and most recently the Fiat nuova 500 (dubbed "the iPod of cars") which rely heavily on a characteristic design and are much more elegant than the heavier cars and SUV's. I would love to see a modern city-car with industrial design and tuned by Apple. And the Volkswagen beatle may be a good starting point...

i'm currently driving my first v-dub, a MkV Golf. I love it. I will definitely buy a VW again, and this just sweetens the deal.

"Named by VW in Germany. Designed by Apple in California. Assembled in Mexico."

no need for all that design & development fuss, Apple will just sell their logos to any company that comes out, the said company will use them on a product with minimal look & feel (white or aluminum) -> fanboys will instantly recognise the inherent "quality", "simplicity", "ease of use" and fork over the cash.
Why not BMW or Mercedes though?
