Apple giving early iPhone buyers $100 credit

You were not happy, and Steve Jobs listened. Apple has posted an Open Letter from Steve (yet another blog post, Steve? When are you going to make it official? You know, we are looking for bloggers... I'm just saying) in which Steve acknowledges that the iPhone price reduction was the right thing to do, but that Apple needs to think about those who bought an iPhone early on and not just those who will buy one during the holiday season.

Apple will be offering a $100 credit to the Apple Store (both online and physical stores) for anyone who purchased an iPhone before the break reduction and who hasn't received any other kinds of credit (i.e. if you get a refund from Apple or AT&T already you won't get another sawbuck). While I still think the reaction to the price reduction was way overblown, this is a great example of Apple listening to their customers and trying to make the situation right.

Details are still being worked out, but look for them to be posted on Apple.com next week.

Well done, Steve and company.

OK, so they dropped the price? This is what can happen in an open market economy with discrestionary consumer products, especially those that are in the tech sector! If the price you are going to pay is not commensurate with what the product is worth to you then do not buy it.

I am happy I got my $200 back cos I was just in the 14 day period.
However, after reading a lot of press on this, I REALLY want to know if the iPhone is doing as well as they said it was.

Cos if its not, the stock's gonna get plundered when earnings come out.

Dear PaperQueen:
I don't recall speaking to you and, in any case, the topic is individual reactions to Apple's store credit, NOT your personal reactions to the opinions others express.
To use your words: Tell ya what...next time, why don't YOU keep your flames to yourself. I can't speak for others here but I, personally, would appreciate it. Do you even OWN an iPhone?

Uh, gee, poster 102.... A store credit is something someone else pays for. You aren’t being asked to hand Apple another dime. If you’re so incensed by receiving $100 of spendable credit for a tech purchase you made of your own accord, well....then don’t.

How can anyone complain about this (other than, possibly, APPL shareholders who didn’t buy an iPhone)? Hey, you chose to purchase the phone within weeks of it coming out. No one forced you into it. Take a breath and get over yourselves, people.

Tell ya what...next time, why don’t you wait six months before buying your new gadget so the rest of us grownups don’t have to stand in such a long line behind you, listen to you yelp “I GOT IT, I GOT IT!” then later be asked to endure endless “No fair!” whining about how unfair everything is?

God knows the rest of us would appreciate the gesture.

@ Post #10 -- Thank you for that morning treat. I literally burst out laughing after reading your priggish diatribe. You've called the local TV stations? THANK GOD! We all know that local stations are the bearers of only the finest, non-sensationalist news! GREAT WORK! Thanks to your efforts, 17 housewives that don't know what an iPod will NOT go out and buy the iPhone they would never have bought in the first place. Microsoft thanks you for your efforts.

Steve can take his $100 store credit and shove it down his black turtle neck. Why would anyone want to turn around and spend MORE money with the company that just dissed their loyalty? A $100 cash refund? Fine. A $200 iTunes credit? Also fine. But a $100 store credit is (yet another) insult.

Technically, Apple said "Tough break" but the backlash from the loyal fanbois was so strong and unexpected ("oh dear, they do seem to have some spine left") that they had to go for a 100$ credit. And now everyone loves them again. You get a punch in the face but if I take you to the movies all is fine.

I am a $600 iPhone user, and just want everyone to know that "The" Steve really isn't worried about all of you "loyal" mac users. I am a recent apple switch. I no longer have to look to the bottom right corner of my screen and see " your computer may be at risk." Steve had me at "Here's the iPhone" and won't go back to Mi$4oft. But seriously, this little gift while for early loyal apple geeks, is really for new customers. Jobs wants people to purchase his product now, but who will if they think the price will drop over the next few months? So now it's a win-win situation for Steve, keep the old faithful happy while convincing the new- that this was a minor glitch. Holla Back, Holla Front, just don't Holla at Steve for making a buck.

America is the only place on earth where people would complain about a price drop. You whiney babies are ridiculous and spoiled brats.
