Push-to-Talk developer pack

The barriers to iPhone-to-iPhone communication are quickly dropping away. Yesterday I put together a push-to-talk developer pack in the spirit of "just add water", or in this case, "just add point-to-point data transfer". It includes a sample app and code for recording and playing back audio as well as a record-time limiter that will override any push behavior if a message goes on for too long.

What it needs is the inter-iPhone technology. I throw this kit into the wild. Let's see what comes back.

WoW... VERY C00l.
I can see it now... a world where one PTT network can talk to another PTT network... all via the iPhone.
Damn I wish I was a coder!
LOL

The thing I hated is that I can hear the shrill beep of PTT at may be twice the distance that I can hear the conversation. It's just not fun. I'm glad I don't hear it much, otherwise I'd get into telling people off for using it in public.

What does your comment have to do with the post? Theres no need to bash Apple fans, especially on an Apple blog. If you dislike them as much as your post seems to indicate, why are you on this site to begin with?

i love your work on this stuff Erica, but i have to say, PTT/walkie-talkie phones are the BANE of my existence!

not a day goes by when i don't encounter some flaming idiot yelling into their phone, held a foot or three away from their head, about the club they went to last night or what a bitch so and so is! and then the annoying ass brreeep! that signals the idiot on the other end sent/received that message! i can't stand it!

Erica,

I am constantly impressed with the quality of your work and the feverish pitch in which you crank them out. I was hoping for two features that would greatly impact the way I use my iphone.

First, a way to sort my contacts by Company name rather then first/last name. I am in sales and I don't always know the contact person, but I know the company name.

Second, the ability to have calls go directly to VM if my calendar has an appointment scheduled. There are ways we can take this further as well. I would love to discuss further with you.

Have to expect this.....there's only a couple million prop-head, apple geeks that can really benefit from this half thought technology - obviously sales have now slowed. Too bad you apple lovers waisted a couple hundred dollars buying it so soon. Was the overnight wait in line worth it? Oh well, maybe mommy will send you a few extra bucks...
