School days: Schoolhouse student organizer
More back to school application suggestions! This time, a full-featured assignment planner, organizer and grade tracker: Schoolhouse 2.1. Last noted by Dan in April, this powerful and graceful app helps keep students on track by monitoring assigments on the calendar and associating all sorts of metadata with the tasks. You can attach your notes or research materials, assign partners to collaborate on projects, or 'classcast' your work out via .Mac or FTP.Schoolhouse is donationware, and if you find it useful we strongly suggest sending a few bucks Logan's way.

Did he update this recently because last time I used it (couple of weeks ago) the app would open and then crash on 10.4.10. According to some discussions, this seemed like a common theme with people.

I used this application during the Spring semester, and it was such a huge help. It was good-looking and it worked. Its charts even helped me calculate what I needed to do to pass my failing classes ;-)
If the crash problem has been fixed (I finished school so I haven't used this app recently), I highly recommend Schoolhouse.

I would like to use this app but I, too, suffered from the errant crashing. Several people have complained on Logan's website about the crashing but an update never came; hopefully one is forthcoming that will fix this issue.

Was it just me, or did anyone else have the program crash when the window was resized?
Hopefully that's been fixed in this update.

I used this for a bit, just stopped last week cause it's too buggy and crashes too often. I really did like it minus all those issues though. I changed to Task List which is pretty much the same thing but less crappy.

I, too, experienced frequent crashing when I tried resizing the left sidebar, but somehow -- luckily -- it was all fixed when I began running the program in Rosetta. (Right-click > Get Info > Open using Rosetta). I have no idea why it works, but it does, even though it's a bitslower than running it using its Universal/Intel architecture. Overall, a terrific program.

I have experienced the crashing thing too. I emailed the developer a little while back to ask if any updates were on the way, but have yet to receive a reply.

@Peter Leeman: Check out Planbook.

The developer is frequently updating the app so now's the time to get in and suggest changes if you like it. I think it's a good app but it's cross platform (also has a Windows version) and as a result, it's not quite as "Mac-like" as it could be. But, as I said, the developer is great and very receptive to suggestions for improvement.

Anyone know if there is an app like this for Windows? I use a Mac, but just started teaching in a school with a Windows laptop program. I'd love to point my students to an app like Schoolhouse that they could think about using to stay organized.
