iPhone WebApps directory is live

Today, Apple has launched its WebApps directory after much anticipation. The new site highlights many of the best pages and web applications that have been built specifically for the iPod touch and iPhone. Categories span games, news, productivity and more.
In addition, Apple has provided links for Web developers that show how to best develop for Apple mobile platforms and how to submit your WebApp for inclusion in the Apple directory.
Read the complete Apple Press Release here.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in.

The list at http://www.ipfun.org is way better, at least at games, it has a rating system.

I think Apple's strategy of only web apps is understandable, at least for the time being while they establish themselves in this market.
I do think the Apple webapps page lacks some flare, especially on the iPhone.
There are already several similar compendiums, e.g., iPhone Application List; and many more that allow you to catalog your favorite sites, e.g. AppMarks.
I run a site that just links to 11 of the best phone apps, http://www.bestphoneapps.com/
I also run a site with more than a dozen useful searches that aims to be the best phone page, http://www.bestphonepage.com/
I love this....
we have been sold a big piece of pooh!!!
Apple is calling it "Mobile Safari" now?
I don't think anybody at Apple is allowed to use it, the campus has a until we reach 10,000 ft. rule until we open the sydney store that were not going to talk to anyone about what the new store will be like because the secret splash will be 3 floors of stuff we sell and the ?? geniuses will be on the roof we need to keep them away and the problem people away from our Happy customers!!
fix my phone please!
Just look at the rss feed if you gotta have a page that's more iphone friendly.
Looking over these the lame/useful ratio looks about the same as the 3rd party apps. Meh.
There is definitely an AIM "client" in their directory:

@10
Also has a bluetooth icon. Nice copy and paste job in Photoshop, no doubt.
And I echo the rest of the crowd: we want -real- apps, not web apps.
Jedi mind trick: 3rd party apps are not the apps you're looking for.

Hey apple, here's a tip - open the phone up and let third parties do something with it besides building these lame-ass webapps!
I can't believe it's not formatted to fit the iPhone screen!
What the...?
(And the WebApps RSS feed isn't working...)
Hey Apple - WEBAPPS SUCK
We want the real thing.
