AT&T to extend hours on December 26
Anticipating a wave of happy new iPhone owners, AT&T will extend store hours across the US on Boxing Day[1]. The idea is this: After receiving their sparkly new iPhone under the tree, consumers will head over to the AT&T stores to buy unnecessary and overpriced accessories in a post-Christmas wave of spending.
TUAW recommends that you accessorize your new iPhone in moderation. The dollar store is a great resource to pick up inexpensive soft cases and socks.
[1] December 26.
Update: For the literal minded, this is the kind of sock I am talking about: It is marketed as an iPod sock but fits the iPhone as well. Cost: $1 at my local Dollar Tree. It's an excellent value works well in pockets and handbags where keys and other such items threaten the integrity of the iPhone's screen.

"The dollar store is a great resource to pick up inexpensive soft cases and socks."
Can you stop talking like a fool? You keep trying to be clever in your posts but you fail hard. Stuff like this and comparing a Mac mini to ham is simply not funny, clever or witty

I thought it was funny. And besides, a sock is a potential source of protection for an iPhone. Perhaps not the most stylish ...
Stop talking like a troll.
I don't eat ham so the Mini wins. Now if it were a turkey platter ...

Let's try this again. "Hey, here's a post that suggests cheaper alternatives for pricey iPhone accessories. Gosh, I don't know if I want to save money... good thing there's extended hours at AT&T on Wednesday so I can shop to my heart's content!"
Sheesh. What on earth is wrong with recommending inexpensive alternatives to $50 leather-and-lexan bulletproof iPhone sleeves?

Only a fool would spend $30 on iPod socks than $1.
I just see this as cheaper alternatives to iPhone accessories, but considering you can afford an iPhone... buying outrageously overpriced iPhone accessories shouldn't be that big of a deal anyways.

Would you really want to spend a dollar on a case for $399 phone? Even I'm not sure how well a $30 Agent 18 case will hold up for me (I've dropped it a few times--a clear iPhone lifesaver--but I'm sure I'm going to have to replace it soon).
Spend $30 bucks on a good case. I agree, mrk, the dollar store references was excessive and unnecessary.

As always (or so it seems), it's hard for a lot of web commenters to realize that there are people in the world who aren't just like them. They see a product and say, "I don't want that; therefore, it's stupid!"
The world is a big place, with a lot of different people in it. Different people want different things -- including different styles of cases for their electronics. Believe it or not, some people don't use a case at all. And some use iPod socks. The dollar store reference is useful for a lot of people who complain about the high price of iPod/iPhone accessories.
Live and let live, y'all.
And for the record, I found the honeybaked ham vs. Mac Mini comparison to be a hilarious commentary on the recent wave of comparisons. :-)

Erica continues with some of the worst post on the web. From the useless comparsons of the iPhone/Touch/Kindle, the "iTunes Shakedown" comment when Apple added the ability to create ringtones in the latest Garage Band update, the useless Mac mini vs Ham entry and now this. Throw on the needless heaps of rants against Apple iPhone policies (come on, you knew what you were buying in to, stop crying) to way too many jailbreaking entries, this is getting tiresome.
Is this TUAW or Erica's anti-Apple pricing platform?

Cool, I always assumed Monoprice just did cables.
Erica, that's a very hip looking sock. If they were bigger, I'd buy a pair for my sister to wear on her feet.

Those socks are quite invaluable!
You Erica-haters need to find another hobby.

unless you drop your iPhone, there's really no need for a case or screen protector... here's a photo of my iPhones screen after 6 months of use w/out a screen protector or case.

Erica,
Your posts are not funny, productive, and least of all not informative. If you need extra money for the holidays, I suggest you work at McDonalds since the only words you have to say are "Do you want fries with that?"
Stop crapping TUAW with your posts, no one likes you. God damn it, just die.

Wow. Are you always such a jerk, or just during the holiday season?
Erica's trying to spread some joy with her posts. You're taking a dump on someone with yours. Who here should stop posting? You're a mean piece of crap, and I really hope you don't behave like that when you don't have Internet anonymity making you brave enough to insult some woman you've never met.
If anybody's crapping up TUAW, it's jerks who say "no one likes you" and "God damn it, just die" to this person. I happen to like her, mostly now because an ass like you says you don't.
If anyone should just die, I think I'd vote for cruel assholes like you before I'd vote for Erica.
And to everyone else, pardon the expletives, but people should know that being such a jerk isn't acceptable in ANY part of our society, online or off.

is this not the exact sock apple offered a few years ago in a pack with their logo on it?
i mean i don't really care and/or understand but is this not copyright infringement or something like that?

Can you copyright socks?
You could copyright designs on them, but that design seems too simple.

Hey, thanks for the Sock tip! And thanks Joe for the mntion of the Monoprice 3-pack! I just ordered that for a belated holiday gift! The fuchsia one's for my partner's new Canon SD-40, one for my cellphone and one for her cellphone. The socks will keep them from getting scratched up in our purses! (My 30gig iPod classic is already in a leather flipcase).
VERY helpful post, thanks! (I'm waiting for the next generation iPhone before buying one of them!)
