The highlight of MWSF '08 keynote

OK, the keynote is over. We're all aflutter over the new products and software (in fact, my iPhone is wiggling with delight). We can't wait to get our hands on a MacBook Air. How about you? What was your personal highlight from Steve's keynote? The MB Air? The Apple TV 2? Yet another chance to support the US economy while increasing your personal debt?

Vote in our unscientific poll and check back tomorrow for the results. In a few weeks we'll be able to judge how it compares to keynotes past, but today we think it was pretty darn great.

Hello Apple, What about a communication friendly Apple Cinema Display to match the new Mac Pro? You know, one with speakers, microphone and webcam. ... Hello? ... Hello? Anybody there? ... Oops, my bad. I forgot this old ACD doesn't have any communication skills, so I've been talking to myself again.

Lets go to Apple's online support! Surely they'll be able to inform me. Let's see... They refer me to the customer discussion forums. For self-help and group therapy. Well, thanks Apple!

Hello folks! Glad to meet you all. Well yes, I've got to admit I'm an Anonymous Apple fan too. And boy, does it feel good to share this terrible secret with other fruit fanatics in this by the way very informative blog & forum.

Looking forward to the next session for some more liberating ranting.

It was obvious that the touch screen technology would somehow find its way into a new machine, but to be honest it is a disappointment i can live without.
No DVD/CD drive means that if you are on the go, more often than not you will be short changed when it comes to trying to get data off, or just watching a movie.
It might encourage people to download them, whether that be on a paid service or a free one.

However one of the things no disk drive spoils is the ability to make someone somewhere a mix cd, which they can enjoy for the next 5 years and helps communication more than most airports do. Its something physical you hand over in a physical world with a handshake, a smile and a pat on the shoulder and might be followed by, good to meet you and I hope we meet again sometime. Then you get on the plane and travel the 3000 miles that lie between you.

As for wireless transmission, most tunes bought from itunes can never be played on another computer so there is little to give away to make anyone smile.

I think the Macbook Air has a place. ESPECIALLY for desktop users looking for some mobility. Once again, Apple is thinking 3-4 years ahead of the crowd. With releasing the MBA, Apple also acknowledged that everything around it would be wireless. Wireless backups through Time Capsule, wireless Optical Drive through Remote Disc, Wireless Computer Access through Back to my Mac. The MBA adds a lot of mobility, and that is its PURPOSE. It's not a replacement computer, it's a convenient add-on that compliments your existing 'rig.'

APPLE LEAKED THE COMPUTER!! The big kahuna. And the leak was accurate even with photo's! That's an Apple leak.

That is the KEYNOTE. A computer.

Apple leaked it because they knew the address was a ho-hum event.

And stock investors agree about today.

Apple does it to itself. They tried to deflect the non-event with leaks.

Comment with my observations in the post. Apple is at a crossroads as a business. They CAN screw it up

Though I love the technology in the MacBook Air I'm still disappointed in the MacPro line-up. $2700 ($2200 if you go single Quad-Core) for a tower is just beyond the price-range for a lot of people. I'm a film editor and I need the customize power available with a tower. The standard I/O of Apple's All-in-one lineup is way too constricting. I edit in both SD and HD so I still use CRT's (with one HD LCD), I need a additional firewire bus and another graphics card. Out of the box iMac I/O isn't fast enough (though a single dual-core processor is fine for me) and the MacPro, though fast is too expensive. I'm looking at the X86 project sad to say. Apple is letting us film editors down....

I am totally excited by the MacBook Air, that is just a beautiful piece of engineering. Thin is in, this product will fit in my work bag perfectly. I ordered one today...
